It's a shame that the sale isn't year-round. GHQ might put a minimum purchase of say $250.00 then you automatically get the 15% discount. Considering that historically most of my purchases are over $400.00 at a time I could certainly qualify! It would probably generate more total purchases each year and spread cash-flow more evenly throughout the year. After-all the idea is to increase sales and with new items out year-round there is new demand waiting to be met every two months. So shouldn't a sale as well?

I know that I missed this one because of an unexpected event and I now have to wait for the end of December / beginning of January sale now. With buying a full battalion or more at a time I have to wait for a discount period so I am pretty much restricted to twice-a-year purchasing. Having the discount throughout the year I would be buying at least quarterly if not more often to get my division done.

Just a "Running it up the flag pole and seeing who salutes." kind of a thing.

You guys that collect at 1:1 scale amaze and impress me. I'm pretty dedicated to the WWII MicroArmour game rules and love collecting the miniatures at platoon scale (its much cheaper). But I see the allure. I often use SdKfz 251/3's ( the radio APC) where appropriate, for many of my German HQ stands just to break up the look of the units at this scale. At 1:1 I'd be buying more motorcycles, kubelwagons and workshop trucks etc.

Thanks! I don't know about others but researching the units and building them the way they would appear on the field is where it's at. Well, subject to the vehicles actually having models available, anyway. It's seriously cool! I'm planning out a large table so I can have the two lead battalions advancing, or defending, side-by-side with both battalion HQ's, including aid stations and maintenance and re-supply points, and artillery at the end of the table. If advancing I'll have the combat engineers forward and ready to bridge any obstacle.

Keeps one off the street and out of trouble!!

There was a period of several years (maybe even a full decade?) before I found this forum, in which I did not have any adversaries for wargaming. During that timeframe my craving for hobby time was spent more as a collector of micro-armor than a gamer. It still had many rewards for me. Researching the units, and collecting and building up the TOEs was quite interesting. And I learned a LOT. My understanding and appreciation of small unit organization came directly from the hands-on experience of building companies and battalions on a 1-to-1 basis.

During that time I viewed my micro-armor hobby almost as if I were a stamp collector, except for the promise that at some point in the future I might actually find someone who wanted to play with my stamps with me!

Well, subject to the vehicles actually having models available, anyway.

That minor limitation never held me back. In many cases a little research will find suitable substitutions, and if not, well that is was scratch-building was invented for.

Of course I have a long history of putting time and effort into scratch builds as a sort of magical method of causing GHQ (or some lesser company) to add the unit to their offerings. Must be a causal link somewhere, 'cause at this point almost everything I scratch-built over the years is now available commercially.

I started this out as a modeler so I am okay with just building toward my goal but it would have been nice to game once-in-a-while. Just not going to happen though. Pretty much no hobby shops left in my end of the world. One, pretty much a R/C only shop (ten miles away), and another a long way off (roughly thirty-five miles away) just a RR shop. There used to be five within ten miles of me at one time. None of them even knew what Micro Armor was and I couldn't interest them in it. Took me a long time to find GHQ and start building. Since then I've been researching and building. I haven't decided where the end will be yet.
