I agree with pmskaar. GHQ's Asashio (IJN20) is a better match for the Kagero class than the Yugumo (GHQ's IJN5) for the following reasons:

- Hull size: Asashio is slightly less than 1 ft shorter than Kagero; Yugumo is slightly more than 1 ft longer. In either case, the difference is negligible in 1/2400 scale (< 0.3 %).

- Gun turrets: Asashio and Kagero had the same design; those on Yugumo were a new design that allowed higher elevation. You have to look closely to see the differncte in 1/2400 scale.

- Superstructure: Asashio and Kagero were close, but not exactly the same; Yugumo had a modified bridge structure. This is not a large difference but discernable if you place models, photographs, or detailed drawings together.

well, some cyanoacrylate glue, taking care to glue inside the hull of the mini, so that the glue does not show outside.

I will order some Asashios to see for myself how closely they match the Kagero.
Well this four ships where only a "blind" grab to play some games using the "Micronauts - the Game" rules.
My next project will be to assemble the japanese fleet for the Battle of Savo Island and then the the fleet for the Second Battle of ** CENSORED **. The last one is of special interest because it was the first of only two battleship vs battleship actions during the Pacific War

Wow, this is my first time on GHQ, and I must say there are so many great works. Quite surprised that they even have miniature Naval units.

I really like the work done by exodusforever for his Modern Naval Carrier Battle Group.

Great painting and Photoshoot.

Every time I come on here, I'm always being drawn to the micronaut thread. Everyone here has some nice stuff for sure, even Sam Scott with his Savo Island battles are nice too

I'm just having a hard time trying to figure out what theater to start in?
I'm still thinking of getting some British and Italian destroyers and light cruisers for Battle of Cape Spada. Seems simple enough, not a large amount of ships to get at the start...

For naval miniatures, I use my garage floor, about 28' x 20' but with a steel support post near the center. (I swear it was an accident: While painting our daughter's bedroom, I dropped a can of blue paint in the garage and the lid popped off. I convinced my wife that I might as well paint the entire floor. It's actually too light for a good sea color, but closer than grey concrete.)

If the weather is good, I can open the doors and use the driveway as well.

I use 2'x2' styrofoam tiles using anywhere from 4x4 to 8x6 tables. In this manner we may scroll tiles when leaving the "edge of the earth"

My "portable ocean" is two thick pieces of 4' x 8' vinyl in a deep blue color. I keep it rolled up on a cardboard tube for easy storage in a closet.

The games I've been posting are 5'x6'. I use a large roll of blue felt as my ocean. I picked it upcheaply at a fabric store.

I used to have a fairly substantial naval collection in 1:3000 scale, but with the lack of any stores that sell minis (forcing me to buy on-line), and with Navwar being a 'snail mail/postal money order only' type operation, I was eventually tempted in the last few months to shift to 1:2400 scale. I have since found that Davco have a web presence, but now that I've seen the difference in detail between the offerings, I think I'll stay with the 1:2400's.
Anyway, I"m building a late war battle group at present, Axis and Commonwealth, for a 'what if' campaign (that may never happen... but if I don't have the minis I know it will never happen)...

So here are my first attempts at painting and the fleet so far.

My fast carrier group; 2 Illustrious class carriers (with different deck schemes so the pilots can identify their ship), HMS Renown as an escort, and HMS Matchless (the destroyer) from CinC.

The start of my amphibious task force. Elements include a bombardment group (Rodney) a support group (the 2 Bogues from CinC) an escort group (so far represented by a Captain class frigate converted from a Buckley class DE) and the actual amphibious group (here represented by an LSI converted from a 1:3000 scale passenger liner... just carved away the life boats and replaced them with LCA's and and LCM3...

And the other side... GHQ's new Lutzow model.

I took advantage of the holidays to get some work done on some of my unfinished ships. First is the USS Arizona painted in the sea blue color with the red turret tops associated with Battleship Division 1

Very nice stuff.
Just got my first batch of warships for British and Italians from this last discount. Very nice looking ships indeed. Can't wait to get painting them
