Very cool! I did read somewhere that the RAN ships were painted in USN camouflage but couldn't find anything but B&W photos to save my life. Looks like MS-21 was the order of the day for the two CA's. Hobart only had a couple of B&W photos but she sure looks too light to be anything other than the dark-gray / light-gray as delivered colors. How she got to operate with the US Forces without repainting must be a whole other story! She looks like she was never repainted judging from the dates of the photos.

Oh, well. Off to order the last of the ships to complete TF-62 for Savo Island and TG 64.2 for Cape Esperance.

Thanks for all the help.

Brigade Commander,

The two Australian CAs did have camouflage patterns early in the war. I've seen drawings of them, but I didn't have the right to copy them. They are supposed to be in a book on UK CAs now being worked on, but I don't remember any details about the book itself, The patterns were not U.S. patterns; they were both pretty complicated, something along the likes of the "First Admiralty" patterns. Sorry I can't tell you more,

With regard to Hobart: the first two books of that four-book series on British warship camouflage (pp. 45 and 38, respectively, according to my list) have camo patterns for Hobart. If you don't have these books, I'm pretty sure you can still get them from Snyder and Short.

First micronauts ever...

Post by Tomitchoe »

Hi gents,

I finally got into 1/2400 micronauts through a friend who got me playing a few months ago. The virus got me so bad that I wanted to start painting my own micronaut ships... especially when we got the idea to start some historical battles in the Atlantic... Started of with the "most renowned ships" to give it a try and see if I really like it... Here are the results:

Prins Of Wales is comming soon... just need to fix the plane...

Tom, Those are some fine looking nicely painted ships. Love the base and the detail gone into painting those ships! Well done!

Hi Tomitchoe

Very nice work on the ships. I really like how you did the water on the bases.

Brigade Commander asked if th4e turret tops of U.S. ships were painted deck blue. My understanding is that they were. The discussion of camouflage patterns in Floating Drydock's "Camouflage" book states that all horizontal surfaces were to be painted deck blue, and their individual camouflage pattern sheets included deck blue on all turrets, except where the ocean grey of many horizontal patterns extended onto the turrets.

Inview into Ruleset

Post by Ragnar65 »

Hi guys,

some time ago I asked for some "Rules light" for Micronauts. I´m still thinking about starting Micronauts. In between I found the bonus supplements and can now imagine how the game "flows". But what do I do with that pages that include lots of squares for every individual ship?
Two more questions:

1. Don´t we have rules for modern naval warfare? The ruleset is titled "WWII"
2. Is there anywhere in the net some kind of review of the rules? Or any detailed AARs?

Any help will be much appreciated... :-)

I believe the GHQ rules only cover WW2. Many use Harpoon for moderns, although a faster, less detailed system that I use now is Suface Battle Group that can be found on Wargamevault.

Micronauts rules are for WWII. The pages with "lot of squres" and other data are for recording damages as explained in the rules.

If you use these rules for surface actions only they are quite fast and easy to learn.

Thanks Mikee. I know they are supposed to be Deck Blue but I hadn't seen any color overhead photos showing them as blue. Even in the Snyder & Short website I couldn't tell for sure if the turret roofs were blue. It would of course make sense so I assumed it wouldn't be missed. A rather large surface that would standout otherwise.

Anyone know what the recognition code was for each ship on the after turret top for the float planes to identify the different ships when spotting? Somewhere I read, years ago, how it was derived. I thought it was a four-letter abbreviation of the name but don't have the source. I think it was just a comment in an article or book.

Re-floating this thread somewhat... for those who are interested, WEM has reinstated much (if not all) of their WW-II Italian range of paint. I'd given up hope, but happened to be emailing them about something else last year and they said then it was on its way back.
