Apparently, the decision to completely replace the gun system with missiles has been reversed and at least one CIWS system is to be back-fitted into all those ships without one.

Between about 2004 to after 2012 it would be common to see an Arleigh Burke flight 2A as modeled by GHQ.

Thanks Donald for answering my question. Do you know if the Sea Sparrow is supposed to be on the same deck position(s) as the CIWS? Has any boat been installed with such option? Btw, I'm still expecting my order of the class to arrive.

re: IJN49, CL Kuma, Yes, the hull is too short. The suggested solution is to take the hull from IJN24, CL Nagara, and fit the superstructure from IJN49. This produces a reasonable approximation of Kuma's appearance. I am going to do this myself (I ordered a batch of IJN49 when they first came out, before the length problem was recognized. My next large order will be for some more IJN24.)

I will give my recommendation for best approximation to HMAS Australia later this week, after I have had a chance to consult my references.

My understanding is that the Sea Sparrows for Arleigh Burke flight IIA are in vertical launch cells rather than in a separate mounting in the CIWS location.

Yes, thanks. It was late at night and I listed the wrong model :o

re: best GHQ model for HMAS Australia: I recommend UKN33, CA Dorsetshire. The deatils are not exactly right, but the general configuration is correct for HMAS Australia as she was during 1939 through 1942.

In 2400 it's probably more than close enough

Thanks

My order has finally arrived, thanks GHQ! I'm suitably impressed with the new Flight IIA Burkes. I think I'll have to get a few more when Shi Lang comes out.

SeaBat 1/2400 modern decals

Post by dragon6 »

someone is selling three sets of SeaBat decals currently. I believe the auction lasts another 5 days

Since GHQ does not sale items like this, and more is the pity, I'm including the url of the auctions. If the locations get deleted just search ebay 1/2400

California deck and hull decals
http://www.ebay.com/itm/SEABAT-REPLICAS ... 2ec068e494

Knox hull decals
http://www.ebay.com/itm/SEABAT-REPLICAS ... 2c66fbbcc5

Ticondiroga class deck markings
http://www.ebay.com/itm/SEABAT-REPLICAS ... 2ec068e497

There is only one of each I believe

The Scrap Iron Flotilla

Post by dragon6 »

The Scrap Iron Flotilla

I hate to post three times in a row  :(

What model would you suggest for HMAS Stuart? She was a Scott class leader and no one, I think, makes the class in 1/2400.

The rest of the flotilla was V&W class so I think I have that covered.

The only 1/2400 model that approximates the 'Scott' class of destroyer leaders is from Panzerschiffe in resin. It is listed as the Spanish Antequerra or Churruca class destroyer, D-059, but these were based on the Scott class design.
Panzerschiffe models have much less detail than GHQ products but are fairly accurate for general appearance. The price is attractive at US$1.50 per ship. I have used Panzerschiffe to fill in spaces that are not produced by any other manufacturer.

Thanks Don. It's not what I'd prefer but I might go that way. I don't see much chance of GHQ ever making a Scott

Dragon6,

Unfortunaltely, you are probably correct about the small chance of GHQ producing a Scott class destroyer leader. They were produced too late to participate at Jutland; thereby losing general interest relative to the yet-unmodelled ships that did participate in this great battle. Except for Stuart, the remaining survivors were converted to escort ships early in WWII. As my primary interest lies in WWII, I would like to see GHQ produce this version.

I will enter votes for Scott class/Stuart in the Consolidated Micronaut Wish List, but it is far from the ten votes that would bring it into the posted list.

Please refer to previous threads addressing V&W classes and the appearance of these ships in Australian service in the early 1940s.

Hey Guys, wanted to share a few photos of some recently completed Carriers...

I know there is plenty of discussion around this topic but I certainly agree with the assessment that we could all benefit from some nice commercially producted carrier decals :D I created my own on the Akagi below and it was a major pain!

There are more photos on my Blog
