Hey Guys,

First post!

Great thread! Some of the cleanest work I have seen for Vietnam in this scale. I am getting started with my GHQ Vietnam collection so I thought I would post a few WIP pictures.

I am really trying to get a handle on how to recreate a jungle in 6mm Vietnam. I only have a few palms for region specific locations.

I hope you guys like the pics...

Some more pics. This is not a battle yet, just putting together what I have currently built. Neat seeing it all come together for the first time.

First attempt at elephant grass. Needed to be taller than a trooper to obstruct vision, but open enough for the stands to move through.

Wow, that is awesome. Makes me want to investigate the Terrain Maker!

Thanks guys! Thank you for the kind words.

I plan on adding more pics/content as I go. Hopefully, we can get a little life going in this thread! There are some beautiful models/pics in this thread which makes it incredibly difficult to not want to get involved with Vietnam micro armor.

The initial challenge is building enough terrain to play on. I am currently reading up on Force on Force (game). Game rules appear to be easy to master and learn. I also have an old copy of Recon that was fun to play back in the day (RPG game). Now, I have the "Deluxe" version of Recon. Good memories. But I digress.

Currently, I have x110 VC coming out the ying-yang with x110 NVA in the on deck circle. With another x110 US infantry after that and some Civilians. Lots of people painting. but it is coming along nicely. I started adding decals to the AFVs and Helicopters prior to shooting them with a dullcote. Once the bulk of the infantry are complete, then I will start finishing off my units by lines of service (e.g. US Army, NVA/VC, USMC, Helicopters, Armor, Cavalry, ARVN, Special Forces etc)

Terrain maker is pretty neat in that you get a realistic look for your table. I hid 20 units on that particular table and asked my son to find them all. He found 15. I found 18. I still lost 2 due to the layout/density. Which should add to the realism perhaps.

Pibber,

Thank you for sharing your most recent pictures. Your work is outstanding in any scale, in the fact that all of this is in 1:285 / 6mm is almost unbelievable! (Are you pulling our (collective) legs, modeling in 1/72 or 1/35 and trying to pull a fast one and pass them off as 1:285?)

A question, if I may... Do you use your works in game play, or are they dioramas you've built for display? My guess is the latter -- I can't imagine how they would stand up to the transport to / from the gaming site, and handling during the course of a game -- they look so delicate!

PolishGI,

Very well done, sir! You've done a terrific job with your miniatures and your terrain, and I look forward to seeing more of your works in the future!

Regards,
Tom Stockton

Hello tstockton ! :)
All models from me, showing on the forum, are really destinate to play wargaming !
They are on non-permanent dioramas display only for the photo !
(I think it's more beautiful to show you models like this, than on my workbench... in the middle off tools and Humbrol paint cans  )

Agree with you, it's not easy for transport, but for the moment my Vietnam Riverine Bases don't go out of my home yet. One day, it will be possible because I'm about to create few small transport cases/boxes specialy for my LSM, LCI ships, riverine base, ... (to go on conventions)
As I said before, no playing wargames "Vietnam aera" for the moment. The reason is I'm still trying to get all figurines, models and build originals models necessary to me to play Vietnam wargaming. (I want to play US Forces and ARVN Forces, around Saigon and in the Mekong Delta aera).
I'm also creating my landscape that includes Vietnam modular rivers, tropical vegetation, townhouses* (*which does not exist at this scale in any manufacturers) ....
Lot of work ! (I hope few photos of these could be ready for the forum this summer...)
Thank you for your comments about my work
(new originals models for Vietnam aera will coming next months...)

Pibber,

I am a little surprised that you would use all of these magnificent works in gaming. I've seen how clumsy or "ham-handed" some gamers can be... including myself from time to time... :(

I hope your models survive any gaming accidents -- they're just too darned nice to get messed up!

I don't know if any such contests exist in your area, but I feel that if you would enter them, you'd come away with some winners!

I'm looking forward to seeing more and new pictures -- the ability to re-create miniature scenes from "the real world" has always fascinated me, which probably explains several of my hobbies (1:87 scale model railroading, 1:1200-1250 scale ships, 1:285 and 1:35 scale armor, 1:72 scale aircraft, etc...) And if my lovely wife ever got into it, I've seen some miniature lighthouses, etc. in gift shops that I always love to look at, and (if I had enough money) we'd probably have collections of those as well! I believe that in some ways, I've never "grown up", and part of being a kid has stuck with me all these years! :D

Thank you for sharing your outstanding work with us!

Regards,
Tom
