Painted (once again with the faded color thing :?). Question - to camouflage or not, and as Kriegsmarine or Heer?

My Danube fishing tournament vessels. :) More putty, rescued turrets from conversions, and uses for the 5 square feet of sheet styrene I have left. Not my best work, I made them more for gaming than sitting on the shelf (I have a HIGH regard for those who do model ship building and Micronaughts!) I still have 2 plans on the table and will hopefully get them done soon. . . and then . . . gaming!

First, Thank you to all the recent posts on the other threads. You all have really raised the bar.

This one was known as Project "186" (large sea-going armored boats/skerry monitors, 8 were built in 1944-1945 + 30 in 1945-1947). It was armed with 2 T34/85 turrets, 2 duo 12.7mm DShK turrets, a 37mm AA gun, and 2 82mm mortars. I haven't the foggiest where the mortars are unless its where the white "targets" are fore and aft on the topdown view. I tried something new and used a technique I've seen on other projects. I scaled down an overhead picture and built upon it. Worked pretty good.

Now . . . unfortunately I only had 2 views and was unable to find any pictures, as a result I missed the additional length behind the "tower". The 37mm AA is not the most accurate, neither are the MG turrets and they may be replaced at a later date. It need anchors and such, again for a later date.

I decided to use this camouflage scheme, probably not the most accurate, but I like it just the same (will repaint a more proper scheme for food :) ).

I want to get / make some Schnellboots next. If anyone has information on any produced (like H&R's) it will be greatly appreciated. I have looked at the 1/350 plastic kits, but by my math they would be half an inch shorter than if 285th.

P.S. I KNEW I'd find a use for the old Car Wars maps. :D

Cris, Thank you for sharing the fruits of your creativity and imagination on this forum. So rewarding. Awesome Soviet watercraft.

its an interesting side to naval warfare and something to try and model. I really have admiration to those who model Micronaughts and model ship builders. Still plan to try some Schnellboots and then take some time off to game.

BTW - I don't remember seeing anything about the BAK1125 in MicroArmor or Micro Squad. Is there any plans to make rules for them in the future?

A WIP on SOC-R boats. Still need to trim off excess glue, add ribs to the side, detail, and add weapon mounts. As it is I only have enough M240B to put double mounts on one boat. Also I haven't decided if I should make one a RAB-P, but I think I can convert some of my .50 cals to make the other weapons.

I fudged on a few things, especially the "radar mount", but I've seen pictures where plating was added behind the pilot to protect him on withdrawal from the mission site. I also think I'll leave them unmanned until I find the right figures.

These are great, really wish GHQ would make these or similar raiding craft/RHIB...

Yeah, but I'm short on funds and have all this Loctite putty and sheet styrene begging me to do something with it.

Here's the progress on the Schnellboots. I decided to use putty for the hull instead of balsa (though I did use it for the mold master :) ) Needs more detailing and sanding.

Next project is finishing buildings for northern Mexico and Latin America.

Just an update. Here's what I have so far. Need to add some hand / bumper rails before I paint, along with the usual clean up. I ordered 2 Trumpeter Schnellboots from Squadron and used some of the pieces from them on my builds. (They are 1/350th and you can see one of the hull halves in the background). A little small, but I like them. I read that the S boats were basically armed as the mission dictated . . . so the one in the front has depth charges and the rear has mines made from parts left over from an Italian model and the heads of pins. Passable and the camouflage will hide some of my flaws.

Last post for awhile. Gonna finally game and look into coastal warfare :).

Redleif - they're passable.

Okay, I lied . . . another post, but they turned out better than I thought (still need details :( ) and I decided I'd share some pictures.

That's it . . . nothing bigger unless I decide to build the MFPs.

To do list done (except for some buildings) . . . time to blow things up . . :)

With a few exceptions this is more like kitbashing than scratch building.

The doctor sidelined me for a few months, some nonsense about taking it easy after quadruple bypass surgery, and it seems I might have some time to finish my "To Do" list after all.

Most of the vehicles are from MIcroform Models. Roughed them up a bit with the old file and Dremel, added bits here and there, and applied paint. I also made some tires and did swap-outs on several of them, hence the rough out-of-round looks.

I used 0.8 and 1mm thick sheet styrene cut to 2x3 and 2x4mm for the boxes. I ran out of rod stock, but found out that round toothpicks are the same diameter and cut those to 3mm long for barrels. The tarps I made by smashing flat some Squadron Green Putty on a metal ruler, letting it dry a little, and them removing it with a razor. It crinkles and tears while its removes, but I like the effect. I droop it over the model and use liquid model cement to smooth out the rough spots.

I thought I'd try some "BMP technical", the plat forms were raised using rungs from some N scale ladders. The GHQ model required trimming the ladder at the base so it would snug up to the side of the bed (due to the wheel well on the inside).

Now on the next thing.

I would like to model this weapon for a WWII scenario. I don't see it listed in any of the WWII sets. Has anyone scratch built this?
