Can anyone help me with the color of the modern Russian yellow used on their vehicle? I want to use Vallejo either regular or air paint.
Thanks

I've learned from experience that you have to be very, very careful about using color photos from the internet for determining uniform and camouflage colors when painting miniatures. Some of the photo's have been retouched for advertising and altering the colors. The biggest problem I found is in the lighting in the photo. You can't know for sure what filters were used, the time of day the photo was taken, or the level of cloudiness, all of which strongly impact the final color you see in the photo.
All you can do is to give it your best shot.

Very true. Also it's a very small number of people that bother to white balance thier photos (or even know what that means) and then it's even a smaller number than that of people that calibrate thier monitors. Combine those two factors and you have no idea what you are really looking at.Waddell wrote:I've learned from experience that you have to be very, very careful about using color photos from the internet for determining uniform and camouflage colors when painting miniatures. Indeed, my monitor is calibrated but I don't have the software to do a decent job of white balancing the photo's so I'm still stuck with what is on the screen. The real godsend in all of this are the color guides that pop up periodically for model makers in much larger scales. Those are worth their weight in gold even without the details above.

Fellow Gamers,
BEWARE!!!!
Paul is planning to attack my Aussies with his Russians, so please do not assist in any way. Do not give him any camo ideas, support, logistics, etc. He has more Tanks than I have vehicles for the Aussies including Bushmasters, M113s of all types, ASLAV, M1A1 AIM Abrams, etc.
He is dastardly, evil. He hates the UN, and bombed their HQ and compound killing many people serving the world.

chrisswim,
Since you threw down the gauntlet of challenge, I am bound to assist Paul in any means possible. To that end, I am forwarding all data, I currently have, to assist in vehicle concealment.
Paul,
The yellow used on my Russian tanks is called Dark Yellow/Sand Yellow from Mr Hobby (Mr. Color). It also has German Tank WWII written on it. In addition it has the number 39. I am not familiar with this company and I am not even sure what type of paint it is. I looked it up on the internet and got the idea it was an acrylic/lacquer mix. I used Lacquer to thin it for airbrush use. It works well and I have not had any problems spraying it. I use about 15 to 20 psi in my airbrush. This is the only color I have used from this company.

Thanks Hoth. I think I have some German yellow so I should look at it to determine if it is close.
Also appreciate the help against Chris. This is probably one of the few cases were I might have the numbers on him. I suspect the Russian armor deficiencies might make up for some of the differences on numbers. That said my air power will be used to take out as much of his forces as possible.

My Aussies are supporting Turkey (not the Thanksgiving Turkey, consuming that tomorrow), and 'Putin' Paul is attacking, being aggressive. NATO needs to support the relief efforts of Turkey with it loyal friend, Australia. The Aussies only have 5 ASLAV-25 to be painted to add to the mix.
Deployment is in the works, with landing Dec 18, expect to commence battle December 19. The Turkish Army is ready! Leopard 2A6, The Commonwealth is debating deployment and military support including boots on the ground. 'Putin Paul' may use bombers in this engagement, he may even fight against the UN, which he has been know to do, attacking a UN Peaceful HQ and food supply depot for displace civilians.
