Gauging Interest

Post by thetourist »

Greetings all!

I have been collecting microarmor for decades and I have a collection in the thousands. I have rarely done more than paint and organize them. Which, don't get me wrong, is fun in and of itself, but my collection is taking up more and more space and does little more than collect dust. I have recently been considering selling them but haven't been able to bring myself to do it. Because some day I will play with them!!?? Anyway, I am considering selling them and moving down to 3mm scale. less space, less money etc.

so the question is, what is my collection worth. I am not at a point where I would give it away and I don't want to sell it in little bits and pieces. Too much work for too little return. So is there interest out there? Let me tell you what I have in an approximate way and you can PM me if you want details.

World War 2

1 -1 Battalion Level Battle Group sized of each:

German Mid War
British Desert and
Euro theater
US
Russian Mid and
Late War

Modern

Approx 1 -1 Battalion Level Battle Group sized of each (some larger some smaller)

US
Vietnam
1990's
Ultra Modern
Marines

UK
1990's
Ultra Modern

German
1990's
Ultra Modern

France
1990's
Ultra Modern

Israel
Ultra Modern

Chinese
Ultra Modern

Company Sized Battle Groups

East Germans
Polish
Czech
Dutch
Turks
South Koreans
North Koreans
Canadians

i think that covers it. Most are painted. I am willing to sell in larger chunks. Prices are negotiable but I am thinking 8.00 a pack seems reasonable? We can talk details over PM. I will caution you though. If I only get interest for a nationality here or there I any not sell anything and just hold on to what I have. I will understand if the uncertainty turns some of you off. Thanks for looking!

Michael

Hello Michael:

It's a bit hard to parse out exactly what's on offer here. May I suggest you pick one of these units and spell out what it includes, and whether it is painted or not. Then you could add the kind of price you'd be looking for.

I don't know what $8/pack means and some context would really help.

I might be interested in a number of the units/armies on offer.

Also, how are the paint jobs? Just spray or are they detailed and highlighted? A picture would help too.

Michael,

I would like exactly what you have, a Battalion can mean many different things to different people, is that 1 to 1, 1 unit is a platoon or company or some other representation? Is that 3 or 4 companies, what about support?

Thanks for the feedback!

So here is an example of what I mean by 1-1 battalion level groups

The WW2 US Group that I have has the following:

2 Companies of M4s with 16 tanks and 11 support vehicles (supply, jeeps, halftracks, recon)

1 company of M3/M5's with 20 tanks

1 company of M24's with 13 tanks

1 company of Pershings with 10 tanks

1 company of14 halftracks and 11 support vehicles (supply, jeeps, halftracks

1 motorized company with 14 deuce and a hlafs and 11 support vehicles (supply, jeeps, halftracks

a supply company with 13 deuce and a halfs 4 DUKWS, trailers, jeeps, ambulances, fuel trucks, workshops trucks etc

mobile artillery with 6 priests

mobile AAA with 12 halftracks of various calibers

infantry company with 24 stands of flocked infantry based on pennies

2 tank detroyer platoons 1 of hellcats and one of wolverines (11 tanks total)

various other support tanks (rocket artillery, mine rollers, bulldozers, amphibious, etc for a total of 19 tanks

assorted odds and ends

total of 245 vehicles and 24 infantry stands plus 2 p51, 2 p47, 2 b25, 1 a20, 1 a26

all well painted. i.e. base color olive green, khaki for boots and seats in haltracks, jeeps etc, tarps, tracks and wheels all painted, all vehicles blackwashed to bring out details. infantry painted olive drab, flesh colored hands and faces, weapons painted black, boots khaki.

so pricing would go like: 245 vehicles/5 = 49 packs + 5 packs of aircraft and one of infantry for a total of 55 packs.

55 x 8 = $440.00 + shipping.

I'd say that the US WW2 group is a bit on the small side. I prefer moderns so my WW2 groups haven't been as fleshed out as some of those. I can send picture via email to anyone who requests of any group you'd like to see. PM me if interested. Thanks!

You may want to use eBay as a guild for prices.
I sold a bunch of stuff and most seem to go for $1-1.50 each
Really nicely painted goes for more.
Post some pic
Good luck with the sale

I don't know your situation but just from my experience I would recommend holding off on selling your miniatures

Just like you I have been collecting for decades (since 1977), organized them, painting and occasionally wargaming them. But I figured on them as a 401K, not being fully used until l retire. I just retired not long ago and I put up a tin building in the back to store them. I spend a good deal of time out there working on them nowadays

3mm would save on space but in my case my eyesight and dexterity have not improved over time.

If you do decide to sell best of luck

Thanks for the feedback everyone. Looks like I will be hanging on to what I have for now. My price for letting them go is too high!

I think your price is fine. The real issue is lot size. Many (if not most) gamers really only need the front line combat units so have little use for trucks, trailers etc. that aren't involved in the shooting. I have sen well painted tanks go for $3-4 each.

So it looks to me as if it is really just a lot more work than you want to tackle. Can't say I blame you!

Armored items sell but most of the demand I found after market are all the aux items.
I don't mine spending $2 + for a tank but I cringe about spending that much for a truck.

Also a lot of people put too much paint on and that covers up all the fine GHQ detail
It's funny C in C looks better with a thick paint job since the barrel are thicker afterwards but GHQ looses a lot of detail after a bad paint job.

Being a little selfish I hope you do not sell anything. I periodically game in Jacksonville and other places and would enjoy gaming with you. We will be playing in Bowling Green on March 5th if you are interested. There should be at least one person coming down from Jacksonville so you could possibly catch a ride. Anyone else living by Orlando are welcome to come.

Cama,

Bowling Green is an hour south of Orlando. Are you able to get down there?

Regards,

Paul

Well, now I am trying to find a balance between projects. I'd still like to sell off some of the superfluous stuff that I have accumulated to fund a new project. And save on space if I am being honest with myself. So if you are still interested in buying I will entertain offers. I will send pics to anyone who asks.

As to gaming, I am down if there are games in the Jacksonville area. I know Chris from a few meetings a couple years ago.

Well, I for one would be interested in that WW2 US collection you posted, and possibly the British. Can you send me pics and a list of what's in the British collection?

Are your vehicles based?

Are the turrets glued, pinned or loose?
