I just finished up a German motorized infantry platoon and as I sat there doing the VERY LAST step, it got me wondering...what is the very last thing you do before a figure/unit is done (excluding spray with Dullcoat).
For me, I paint the edge of the bases an olive green. It sort of identifies the figure as mine (it's not a grass green). But it also tells my brain STOP! This one is done.
What do you do?

What is the Very Last Thing That You Do?
For me, once I have done all my other steps and after applying any decals, I will give my tanks and other vehicles a light coat of dust.
I do this this by running some really thinned down light tan paint through my airbrush. I do this fairly carefully since I don't want to obliterate all the other detail work that I did by making it too heavy.
Once this step is done, then I put on the dullcoat and when that is dry I pop it off the nail and call it done.

Such as I can (I wouldn't know how to use an airbrush if I had one), I do the stuff the other guys mentioned before the model goes on the base,
After the base is" flocked", I give the edge a coat of paint like you.
I use different green/gray/brown shades, usually depending on nationality.
Usually, The Very Last thing I do is give the base itself a clear coat.

I forgot to mention in my previous post some things that I actually do after I apply the dullcoat.
1. For trucks and other vehicles with glass windows and headlights, I apply some acrylic gloss medium to give a bit of a shine to those areas.
2. For tanks and other tracked vehicles, I apply Humbrol Polished Steel to the end connectors and also to the "teeth" on the tracks.
3. Tow cables and MGs usually get some Humbrol Gunmetal to give them a hint of a sheen.
These 2 Humbrol colors go on flat and then you can "burnish" them to get the sheen. I usually do this pretty lightly so things are not too shiny.

For me putting the unit label on is kind of like putting the cherry on top.
It's like giving it a stamp of approval when you glue the label on.
Kind of like...you see what it is, and now with the label you know what it is.

Why, in my day, we didn't have counters. We had to paint the unit values onto little rocks. maps?! Hah! We had no paper maps! We put our rocks in the dirt. It sucked when it rained, but we soldiered on!!! Don't get me started on dice...
