Choose one Modern item for the 2017-18 new releases

Post by GHQ »

We are following up on an idea that was presented by one of the forum members about having a discussion, followed by a vote to select a new release. We are going to try this for one model, and see how it goes. We are starting this with a post-1945 1/285th scale Micro Armour discussion. Make sure that your idea had a production run of at least 100- we want to stay away from incredibly limited runs that were used by a small army, in a very small action. Please don't add anything that does not fit those criteria. We thought that if this is going to work, it is best to try to focus the discussion a little. If you aren't a Modern gamer/modeler, don't feel like you can't take part in the discussion- you may have some good insights and ideas that will be useful. One last thing, if you are strictly a WWII, or a naval, fan, please don't post any sour grapes/complaints. If this idea works, people enjoy it, and we feel that it was a good experience, then we will do the same thing for a WWII and naval model. If this turns out to not be fun, and a lot of complaining, then we won't.

We want to thank all of you who participated in the thread about this. It is a great idea, has the potential for a lot of fun, and let's you know how much we listen to our customers.

This thread will just be for putting out suggestions, lobbying for them, etc. Please keep your comments on the positive aspects of why something would be good. Please be kind, and courteous.

Come on Fireball, panzergator, CG2, BurtWolf, jaxenro, Hoth_902, Guroburov, CBoy3, Paul B, 7.62, RedLeif, etc., you guys were all really active in the original thread about this idea! Get the ball rolling!

Thank you for your support,
GHQ

SU-35 would be my preference or the T-14 (which I know has limited production).

Bv 206.
Over 11,000 built used by 37 Countries (just about all of NATO).

If it came down to a modern aircraft I would go for.

BAe Hawk.
About 1000 sold.

Wow,

GHQ certainly put me on the spot by mentioning my name. LOL. Sadly I have not given this much thought other than maybe some different versions of some existing vehicles. Some ideas are listed below.

Up armored Challenger II - Second gulf war
AAVP-7 A1 without the side armor
M-551 Sheridan without the machine gun basket on top.

the first two I am more interested in, out of the three of them. I know some of these may not be popular with everyone because they all exist in one form or another and there are certainly vehicles out there that are not represented by any version. With that said, i like having units with some variety.

I will try and put some time in on some vehicles that fit into the classification of "never been modeled". I know I have a few floating around in my head, they just escape me at the moment.

Hmmm, I will have to pitch a vote for:

the Stridsvagn 103

I love the S-Tank. Others have done it before but I'd love to get a GHQ sculpt.

For a modern aircraft, I would love to see a MiG-25 Foxbat.

I know I have shocked someone for not choosing something for my JGSDF plans but European theater is where the action is at and where the sales would be.

Nice concept & should see a lot of support.

I'd like to see the 60's UK line finished off. There are a number of serious holes which need filling.
- Conqueror Heavy Tank
- Stalwart 6x6 to go with the excellent Saladin/Saracen
- Abbot 105mm SPG
- perhaps a "pink panther' SAS variant of the LWB Land Rover bristling with MG's as per the WW2 SAS jeep.

I know GHQ said 'one nomination', but you just can't stop at one.....:-)

PS I think the S-Tank would be an excellent choice as well. Thanks to those above who suggested it.

I'd also like the S-300 or S-400.

Would second the Patriot Battery as well.

Statement of interest: I am doing only WWI and WWII Micronauts, so I probably won't buy any of the items being discussed. This is just my opinion as an outsider to the active group.

A package containing equal numbers (two or three each) of FV433 Abbot and FV623 Stalwart Mk 2. I know this is actually two items, but standard practice was to assign a Stalwart to each Abbot. Neither is available from GHQ.

First, several of the items mentioned above are available from Brand X. GHQ may make a better version, should they choose to do so, but the others are "good enough."

Second, among the rules discussed was that an entry was to contain only ONE nomination and any that violated that rule would be disregarded, the desire being to FOCUS on the item most important to the voter. It's part of the distillation process and we ought to follow the rules or we just get another thread like "Things I'd Like to See..."

There are a number of things I'd like to see GHQ make, but in the interest of THIS thread,

I nominate: M48A1 with aux fuel drums racked on the stern.

This one would give me another era and battalion type. It would lead to other nominations at another time, and segues from the '47 series, as it is an evolutionary development of the M26/46/47 series. Its range limitations, stereoscopic rangefinder, and other handicaps make it an interesting participant. Make two with the naked 50cal and three with the cupola for each pack.

For the information of younger folks who nominated the M60A2 and the M551 without the MG cupola shields, GHQ made both many years ago, but discontinued the items at some point.

I am sure an SU-27 variant would be popular. Personally I would like to see an up armored Israeli M113. It would be a good complement to the Magach 6B Gal. The Nagman/Nag Man is probably the most produced:

Though these look different:
