2017-02-18 post-Cold War Types and Votes

While reviewing the Consolidated Micronaut Wish List, I noticed a relative scarcity of modern ship types. Although about one-third of GHQ’s recent Micronaut releases have been post-Cold War types, only four of the 102 types in the “top 100â€￾ posted list. This is almost certainly because votes for WWI and WWII types have been building for years while more modern types have been topics for votes only recently.
To offset this, I am instituting a one-time “cheatâ€￾ for post-Cold War types. From now until GHQ’s announcement of the 2017-2018 releases at the end of May, I am going to count votes for post-Cold War types separately. Then, based only on these votes, I will boost the votes for post-Cold War types until they constitute at least 25% of the “top 100â€￾ list.
I recognize that this is unfair to fans of WWI, WWII, and Cold War types. Rest assured that any existing or new votes for these types will still be counted. If one of your favorites drops off the “top 100â€￾ list, vote for them again until they work their way up again.

Donald,
I see why you are counting the Post-Cold War votes separately. This is perhaps a good idea so that GHQ has a broader base for choosing new models to build from the modern time period.
However, if you subsequently artificially inflate the popularity of the modern ships in the top 100 list, GHQ would possibly get the idea that they should build a higher percentage of modern warships than they do now. Since GHQ has a limited production capacity to produce new models, they would have to reduce the numbers of ship models they produce from other time periods. This would indeed be unfair to people like me who are only interested in the WWII time period. I am absolutely opposed to the second part of your new plan. I think you should keep the two request lists separate.
Respectfully,
Michael D. Waters

I want to give a boost to some of the ships below the “top 100â€￾ posted list that I would like to see produced by GHQ. Part of this is a desire for others to vote for ships that they would like to see, even if they are not in my posted list.

WWII Japan heavy cruiser Maya, late-war appearance. CinC makes a decent model of this ship in its late-war appearance, but GHQ’s would be even better. This ship has 15 votes now.

WWII UK destroyer “Aâ€￾ and “Bâ€￾ classes, modified as escorts. Most of the surviving “Aâ€￾ through “Iâ€￾ class destroyers were converted to anti-submarine escorts in the mid-war period. I don’t know of any 1/2400 model of this appearance. This group has 14 votes now.

WWII France destroyer Mogador class. CinC makes a model of this class, but I would prefer a GHQ product. This class has 13 votes now.

WWII UK light cruiser Delhi, anti-aircraft conversion. I don’t know of any 1/2400 model of this ship. This ship has 12 votes now.

WWII UK light cruiser Effingham. This ship was converted from one of the first heavy cruiser classes by replacing seven 7.5-inch guns with nine six-inch guns. The British had planned to convert all the Hawkins class to this appearance, but the onset of WWII made other demands on shipyard space. This ship has 11 votes now.

WWI UK monitor Erebus class. The British had a number of purpose-built shore bombardment monitors during WWI. The Erebus class survived through WWII. The only 1/2400 scale model of this class of which I know is in resin from PanzerSchiffe. This class has 10 votes now.

WWI UK battlecruiser Renown class. CinC makes a model of this class in its original appearance but GHQ would make it better. Repulse saw combat in WWI in its original appearance. This class has 9 votes now.

WWI Italy battleship Cavour class. The original appearance was much different from its WWII appearance, as in GHQ’s RMN01. This would be a good starter for a GWI line. This class has 8 votes now.

WWII USA destroyer Clemson/Wickes classes, escort conversion with six 3-inch guns. Some retained all four funnels while others converted one boiler room to extra fuel bunkers and accommodation with only three funnels. This version has 7 votes now.

WWII UK destroyer Battle class, first group. These were late-war construction with greatly improved anti-aircraft weapons. I don’t know of any metal models in 1/2400 scale. This class has 6 votes now.

WWII France submarine Surcouf. This was a unique design with a massive twin 8-inch gun mount. In general, I prefer surface ships to submarines, but this is a special case. This vessel has 5 votes now.

WWII Germany minesweeper 1935/1939 type. This is typical of many smaller warships that played an important but little recognized role in all navies. This type has 4 votes now.

WWII USA Wind (WAG-278) class icebreakers. These were heavily-armed ships intended to provide escort as well as their nominal ice-breaking function. They continued to serve for decades after the war. This class has 3 votes now.

WWII UK water tanker Fresh* class. These were small auxiliary ships designed to supply fresh water to ships in harbor. They also had fire-fighting and salvage capability. This class has 2 votes now.
