@ panzergator

My group is a good bunch of guys. They are a small close nit group that plays every weekend.. I sadly am a newcomer that rarely gets to play so I don't really try to change the way they do things. If I was more active and involved I would try to have them play a game or two using a different rule set. This group also is very huge in developing there own rule sets, so they rarely use and off the shelf rule.

As for the 1/600 scale, I have tried to paint them and it seems difficult to do a camo pattern.. My first attemp failed. Single coats are easier. I don't like the scale much.. I think they try to put too much detail and the pieces look lumpy and there is no way to tell between one version from the next.

@ Extra Crispy

Yea, these games are pretty short.. You play for a couple of hours and they are about done. There is some maneuvering but not much. you pretty much get right into it. That is why they like the 1/600.. it opens it up a little bit. But sadly, even at that scale, most weapons are firing cross board and if the game board did not have woods or hills, every movement is seen by all. its fun but I agree, maneuvering is part of the fun of the game and getting into good posiiton is a lot of fun.. Its armor warfare, maneuvering is the basis of this style of fighting.

@ chrisswim,

That is why they do not play 1/285th much. The groups exact argument is that the ranges are too long and they don't like the feel of using a ground scale.

I am not knocking it.. We all like what we like. I still like trowing down with axis and allies every once in a while. Its fun, simple, and takes alot of aspects of war into account. Even loved the game Line in the sand. That game added some diplomacy and espionage to the game.. I am very flexible and since Gaming groups are not very prevalent, I will play whatever people are playing .. to just play. Its kind of my pizza philosophy.. Even a bad piece is still pretty good. .. No wait.. my work cafeteria pizza sucks.
Quantity has a Quality all its own.

Hoth,

I use a ground scale of 1 inch to 100m for platoon level games, ie 1 model = a platoon.

For rules using 1 model = 1 real vehicle a common rule ground scale is 1 inch = 50m.

The Team Yankee game I played was using the rules from the Team Yankee board game that came out not long after the book (I think). Not the current Flames of War offering.
The board game rules were pretty good.

The platoon level rules I use are a work-in-progress set pinching things I like out of other rules, eg FFOT3, Modern Spearhead, Fire&Fury WW2, Air&Armor and things I've dreamt up myself. Keeps me occupied as I don't think I'll ever finish them.

Cheers, B

Just hosted a game that included both a WWII Soviet tank brigade and a German reinforced tank battalion at 1:1 a couple of weeks ago. 25yds to the inch with a 12' x 6' table. Some maneuvering was involved.
