I'm about to spend 4 weeks in Toronto for a combination of military & civilian work courses.
Do we have any of our Canadian denizens on the list who are willing to share a beverage & put a face to some names??
Also, are there any gaming stores in Toronto which might have interesting stuff to look at? By 'interesting', I mean GHQ or other miniatures (15mm as well). No RPG's or suchlike.....

I don't know if anybody contacted you by PM.
I was heavily into gaming until about 25 years ago. I have been trying to get in contact with local war and miniatures gamers with very mixed results.
I have only found one shop which carries anything beyond role playing or "collectible" game miniatures (Warhammer, Tie Fighter, etc. and that type). It has some stuff for the 20 mm skirmish game, can't remember the name now. It is hidden back in the far corner past all the ready to play plastic stuff. If you are looking to pick up any micro armour while here my suggestion would be to have it shipped from the manufacturer to your temporary address.
Miniatures gamers are clustered in small groups with seemingly very narrow interests. I have only peripherally contacted anyone gaming with micro armour. As I said I have been out of it for years and one of MY problems is the large selection of titles but no one (yet I hope) with interests in the style of games I like. If anyone reading this is from the GTA and interested in micro armour please PM me.
My personal taste is one vehicle equals one vehicle. One stand of infantry equals a fire team/squad/weapon system, etc.. I am finding the board game Awakening the Bear lots of fun and am looking to convert it to micro armour. I have yet to try the vehicle rules and they are very simplified. If they have as good a feel as the infantry rules do I will happily keep them. This is a broad way of saying if you would be interested in a few games with a like minded gamer while you are here contact me.
I don't know why things are the way they are other than we are all older and moved on or are dealing with life as there were a few very intense groups in this area compared to years past. I am greatly impressed by the huge rise in 'board games' and there are many more stores catering to these. Lots of them are fun and I can even get the wife to play!

Same country but 3,000 miles away. If you are ever in Vancouver B.C., there are several very active miniatures wargaming groups here, with the oldest and largest being the Trumpeter Tabletop Games Society. The dates for the monthly game nights (usually attracting 60 to 80 gamers) are on the website.
