Hi Guys and Gals, I for one have been gameing with GHQ since the 1970s early/mid, i do not post that often, due to health and work scheduale plus family issues, i for one noticed a falling off of a certain fantasy companys popularity due to there priceing and changeing rules every 15 minutes kinda like Texas weather, I have only ever in my time seen large GHQ/micro events in a public store setting again 70's/80's in Burbank California on friday nights other times would have been at my house so very limited space. I have notice a general issue with historicals not being handled in most stores due to shelf space being keep for new shinny fantasy games and those seem to be getting less and less. I myself only play with close friends and some newer ones due to many reasons, as far as this form goes I am happy with it. only reason i am on at this moment its my lunch 1/2 hour. I normaly look at the other sections of the sight at least 4/5 times a month on my phone. My pc got hacked and anyway the price for connecting is not worth it along with computers I normally mail order my GHQ. Dave the Scopemaster.

Maybe folks need to start promoting the hobby a bit more?
Trying to get "kids today" to play a real hand's on game can be hard to do.
I haven't actually played anything but a few tabletop games in years since it can be hard to get more than one or two people in the same room interested in anything more complex.
One possibility, if your town has a decent game shop with a set of tables, try to get a few friends together and play a round of Squad Leader or maybe a Microarmor version of Flames of War.
Most game stores don't tell you WHAT game to play...

The only reason it is fading from places like these forums is because we have easier to access areas now like Facebook groups.
Then you had forums like this. The social media trend is easier, faster and much more responsive than these old forums. Here you have to complete a form... WAIT for said form to be seen and acted upon, which may not happen any time soon... I waited months for someone to finally activate my account posting rights after asking about it.
Totally agree. Several of the groups I participate in exceed 3K users. It is much more fluid and sharing of ideas, pictures, sales, trades, historical info, games, etc. is a thousand fold greater. GHQ even posts in a couple of them. And by the way, if you have a smart phone or PC then you have nothing to lose by being on Facebook.

I get the point about Facebook. I will have to evaluate the pros and cons, although at the moment, I am prejudiced toward the cons. I have an account, but seldom visit it, both because I don't like it and because of all the stuff other folks put on it. Who has that kind of time?
Seems to me in might be better to find a more public forum, like a school gymnasium, to promote the hobby. It might contain a larger game. I suggest that knowing that the local high school might feel it promotes war and violence and therefore not accept such an activity. Maybe the local Reserve center? We have an airfield south of here that has a museum in one of the hangars which might be a possibility. Perhaps you have one, too.
I would like to see the hobby promoted to ensure the continuation of my part of the hobby - collecting, painting, and building TOE units. I have not been able to contact the supposed local Manhattan Maneuver Group.

For myself, I am busy with my 6mm Leipzig project. That will keep me busy until the new year at least so I'll be mighty scarce around here. In case you're interested, I have a thread about it here:

As for promoting the hobby, I have run games at our local library on boardgame night (Memoir '44 with upgraded terrain and GHQ minis) and at the middle school (mostly Fantasy stuff). I live in a *very* liberal town and have had no problems.
But frankly the hobby is doing just fine. Fears of "graying" have appeared in wargames magazines as far back as 1978. But this hobby takes time, patience, space and money. SO young people usually prioritize sowing wild oats (I know I did). I'm alaway pleased how many customers I have who gamed until college and are now back, after a 15-20 year hiatus. Now they have a few bucks and a basement, and time (kids keep you home nights).
Also, I am migrating more and more to Facebook. The 6mm groups there cover more than just tanks, and are very, very active. I don't really use Facebook for much else other than an occasional look in on friends. 99% of what I do there is visit gaming groups and promote my business.

Never having been a terribly prolific poster to begin with, but I too have fallen into the real world taking priority. Big Army deciding to move us into on base housing with not enough space and no storage areas hasn't helped at all. Especially with the Mrs. needing space for her business so I fit myself into a small corner for just my new computer. So all my hobby space and time is on hold until we can figure out how to squeeze more storage space out of the house. While being shuffled around for details and taskings, with hopefully a course coming up in a couple of months. Lots of gripes and complaints as my micro armor sits still in packs in the storage tub that's been packed since before leaving The Rock (AKA Baumholder). Slowly been reacquiring new paints to start messing around with.
Though I'm eagerly awaiting the release of the M60A2s, and have made sure that no matter what I will be ordering a few packs of those. The sale will help there too, thanks GHQ!
Sure do miss Pibber's Vietnam posts though.
