I have been watching this post for a little bit and have even chimed in once or twice with my opinion. However, I am confused at people’s displeasure with the Imagi-nation thread. If you are not interested with the post, its easy enough to pass over and move on to the ones to interest you. What I have seen, that sometimes goes along with the complaint with imagi-nation threads, is the dissatisfaction with the reduction in post to treads that encompass other aspects of the hobby. In an effort to better understand the dissatisfaction with the Imagi-nation tread, I have the following question. Do people really believing that this tread takes away from the site or are they just unhappy with the fact that contributions have dropped off for the other threads? Especially those centered on painting, rules, modeling, gaming and the like. I feel that if there was more contribution to the other treads, these threads would not get a second look. If you think about it, there is about three treads, give or take, compared to thousands of threads for every other thing you could imagine. The only difference is the imagi-nation treads are more active at the moment.

Since I am on the subject, I too am frustrated about the lack of contributions to the other treads. Maybe, as some have suggested, the lack of posting is because people moved on to other mediums like Facebook or some other site. Regardless, I think overall posts have dropped and it’s disappointing. I think a better discussion, for the community at large, is how to generate more traffic. I think if we got more people contributing to other treads or new ones, the imagi-nation stuff would not always be at the top.

Too that end, I have been an advocate for GHQ creating subfolders so that things are easy to find. Having all these treads in one location that has no easy way to search for what you want, is not useful. A few example of these subfolders could be things like Model tips, Vehicle pics, Gaming after action reports…. Etc.. etc.. There is so much great content on this site that is almost impossible to find because it’s buried along with thousands of other threads. I bet that alone could draw more users or generate activity.

Long story short, I feel as though the debate over Imagi-nation is more about people disappointed about the lack of post to other treads, than it is specifically about this tread type. If the other treads were more active, it would be off everyone’s radar, accept those who use it.

Just one persons opinion.

For those of you complaining about imaginations, the question is where is your alternative content? Where is your discussion about rules, your review of recent games? Where are your after-action reports? Where are your pics of painted models and kit bashes? Where are your ideas for new models? Where are your discussions of vehicle capabilities and limitations?

You can light a candle or curse the darkness. I see a lot of cursing. Don't see many candles. Imagi-nations are at least candles.

GHQ does not create most of the content here. MEMBERS contribute content. They make or break the content. They make the forum go. If you aren't contributing, you might at least stop complaining about those that do. If you want the boat to go, get your oar in the water and pull on it.

There is nothing stopping you from initiating content you prefer. If you are not contributing anything but complaints about those who do, it is not constructive. When things don't look as bright as you think they should, make sure the window isn't foggy with your own breath.

I've been gone for some months due to real life interfering in my fun time. My fun budget is dead for the foreseeable future which is really sad as my ventures into the sabre rattling world of imaginations was pushing me to clear out old projects and expand the military might of the PROG! At first I didn't get those threads at all but the more I read the funnier they became. It's almost the drama of WWF at times with the larger than life personalities and rivalries. I'll try to continue to participate because I find them funny even if I won't get new toys for a while. I can understand the desire of those who want more discussion and pics but until we see more participation everyone can just choose which threads to read. I don't think they're harming the forum. But that's just my 2 cents.

Facebook has killed bloggers and forums. This forum will be stale and rarely visited.. Unfortunately for the great posters on this thread its too bad. I suggest taking this to a wider audience on facebook. Unless GHQ starts drawing people here it will get plowed under in time.

I like having a ghq specific forum and am not a Facebook user. Archaic - I know...

But Ghq has a Facebook page already, maybe it doesn't get enough traffic as is? How many different folks are posting on the 6mm public group on Facebook or is it just a small solid core?

I wish traffic would pick up on this forum, I think we regulars all have to post a helluva lot more especially pics.

What's Facebook? Can't see that catching on lol.

The photo hosting is a big problem for this and many other forums right now.
However things change and solutions come and go. Even without photos I think this forum will continue until the next option comes along.
For the future I have complete faith that GHQ will do what is right for themselves and that will work for me.

Yep, it is no coincidence that once it became harder to post photos the traffic dropped off. I've gotten used to using Imgur now... but like you I will follow GHQ do whatever medium they are using.

Do not let it stop you. Thats the beauty of your own Nation.
You do not need a full MEU to start the US Marines even if that is your long term goal.
Just run with what you have and add over time.
Or just run a side line with a small Kingdom or whatever. I find it keeps the interest going when funds are low but you really want to build that 1 to 1 copy of a true Military OOB one day.

A rebel group, a civilian business, a paper/card building or anything 1/285-1/300 scale you come across cheap.
Just build it and it will come.

Long live the PROG.

You do not need to own everything that your Imagi-Nation is supposed to have, only I do that...shouldn't. It is expensive and takes up space. It all started when I received the Canberra from someone. Then building a navy in 1/350, 1/285, 1/300, 1 400 scale.....One guy has 7 super carriers.... dang. I have one model in 1/350, but not put together yet. It will start next summer my my SHIPYARD returns from his assignment in the merchant Marine on a forward positioning ship.
.
Most of the guys posting here, have shown the intent to not 'take over/capture' another guys country. It has been to maybe bump into, fight, but not an acquisition. Some like me are here for peaceful purposes only, for economic opportunities. I am your friend ... Friend.
.
I have friend who says he is going to jump in soon. We shall see.

I agree 100%. You don't need to have everything in your imagi-nation's inventory and you don't have to even have them in the same scale. For the Republic of Dalmatia I have stuff in 1/285, 1/300, 1/600, and 1/2400 scale. I have stuff made by GHQ, other micro armor manufacturers, plastic mode kits, and even models that I made myself (of very low quality!)

The ROD has 6 aircraft carriers - 2 of them are actually legitimate pewter miniatures in 1/2400 scale and the other 4 are ones that I made myself. I also have 2 carriers in 1/600 scale (plastic models), but they represent the same carriers that are in micro scale. I only have them so that I can pay with the 1/600 scale aircraft on the flight deck.

For the Army my plan is to build a complete armored brigade and then that brigade will be forward deployed somewhere. The the ROD has several divisions in theory, my micro armor will just focus on a single brigade.

I also made a website which is not very fancy, but I can post pics and stories and show where the ROD's units are deployed. That didn't cost anything to make!

I will, respectfully, disagree. I rather like having the models I will claim for my imagination. Not all of course. That'd be too expensive. And awesome. :D

redleg, great website, I can see you having a lot of fun with that. I believe this may become the easy way to get our photos back on to the forum.
I have had a bit of a change of plan with my 6-mm.com (may be sold shortly).
However I have other domains I can use and some blog names set aside too.
This weekend is time for helicopter painting but may have time to play on the interweb thingy.

Guroburov, I'm with you on that. I want it all 1 to 1.

Balzac is doing very well. Not a super power(never will be) but starting to fill out with a wide range of options.
Yer Bouti is poor as dirt! Very small mix of cast off Soviet and Chinese give aways.
Even their housing is too embarrassing to post on here.

I do not care which scales anyone else use but I am trying to stick to 1/285-1/300.
I have pushed some of the boats and subs to 1/350 but anything else (ie 1/450 ro-ro container ship) get kit bashed down to 6-mm ish.

At the end of the day it's whatever works for you but all it takes to start is a sample pack really.
