Stryker IFV Thread

Post by redleg »

Since March is wheeled IFV month I thought it time to start on a Stryker infantry battalion. So I went to order some M1126 infantry carriers and I noticed two sets: M1126 Stryker IFV (N136) and M1126 Stryker IFV w/ Applique Armor (N504). I know my eyes aren't what they used to be, but they look the same to me on the website. The Modern Stryker Infantry Task Force combat command (N161) lists the M1126 w/applique armor but it looks just like the other 2 pictures.

Is there really a difference and I just don't notice? I'm expecting some external boxes on the vehicle for applique armor.

I believe you are correct. The pics appear to be the same

There is a slight difference between the two. I have both. It's so minor it's hard to tell. It's late and I have to work tommorow, but I will try and look and post something.

You should be aware that this type of behavior can lead to unpredictable results. I once set out to build a Stryker battalion and ended up with an entire brigade. Now that they've released the new versions it may be necessary to build another brigade with the new models.

I can't agree with you more Waddell, I made the mistake of painting some of my Stryker MGS's desert beige and now I want some in green. Also, I want the new vehicles that have come out. It is safe to say I am going to far exceed my company of vehicles and will be heading toward larger formations...

As to the differences, These are the ones I can see. By the way, sorry I took me so long to respond.

The M1126 Applique armor has shovels and such on the left side of the vehicle. On the right side of the vehicle, on the side above the wheels, forward of the machine gun, there are bolts on a vertical panel that is not on the plain M1126 vehicle. The plain M1126 has a single bolt located on the outboard side of the aft doors and the applique does not. The single round object just forward of the aft upper deck doors is flat raised circle on the applique and plain has a raised dimple in the center of that same flat spot. The side rails for stowage are different on both vehicles as well. All in all , there are more very stubble things, but I could go nutz listing them. To be honest, because the differences are so minor, I am not even sure I care about having one or the other. The only reason why I have both now, is a mistake when I made the order for them.

Yes, it's like a virus. I started with a US M60A2 platoon and a Soviet tank company. Then I had to have a US task force and a Soviet MRR. And so it has gone... On and on and on. US tank and mech bns, Soviet MRDplus. Etc, etc, etc.

Thanks for the Stryker info! I'm thinking I'll just start with the Stryker with applique armor so I can get the combat command as a base to build the unit. Of course, if I happen to catch whatever disease you guys have I will probably have to build another unit with the other type. And then another one in desert tan. And then another one in camouflage. And then another one in pink for my daughter. and then a couple more so that I can have full brigades......

redleg,

Good news, I don't think there are any camo colored strykers in the US inventory.

Chris, it's more envy. I have a US division's worth of tanks and APCs, another brigade, a British aib plus 2 tank squadrons, a German panzerbattalion, and a French combined ams unit. Divarty, engineers, and ADA round out the division. I stopped buying Russians a long time ago at an MRD and independent tank bn. Budgetary and space limitations. One more year (maybe) of college for youngest... But then, I am not out to conquer the world, either, lol.
