Nice work BurtWolf. Those look really good. What are the base paint colors you used?

Thanks for the comments! I stumbled on the color scheme really. I was refurbishing these tanks and did (all paints Vallejo) a dark grey base. I then covered with Desert Yellow. I tried out two washes, and settled on Nuln Oil. Now normally here I would dry brush and leave it be. But I wanted a "dustier" appearance, more like the expert guys on this forum, and on a whim did a very quick and somewhat light once over with Vallejo Light Mud. One more wash with Nuln Oil and a quick dry brush. Didn't take too long and I like the results. Not expert but better than what I was doing before...

The armored cars did not get the Light Mud treatment by the way, hence the contrast.

I like the contrast. No two vehicles will ever fully weather the same. Great job.

More Desert WW2. I deliberately am not doing camouflage as I feel like it obscures the model detail (since I use brushes and it seems to get clumpy)

BurtWolf,

More great looking vehicles. Love weathering and look of all of them. I have only one thing to say, more please.

As for the camo, have you tried to thin the paint that you are using? I airbrushed the base coat and then applied the camo pattern with a brush. I thinned the camo paint a little bit with the following results.

I know the use of an airbrush limits the build up of paint thickness from the base coat, which probably helps the final result. In my oppinion, the detail still looks visible. Any way, just a thought/suggestion.

Thanks Hoth! I will have to experiment with that. Yours came out well but I never seem to get close to that effect. Maybe I need better brushes as well, I trash mine pretty regularly unfortunately.

BurtWolf,

I tend to agree with you on the "non-camouflage" paint schemes. I just LOVE to see the detail that GHQ's miniatures has, and more often than not, those multi-color schemes seems to, well, camoflague it.

Having said that... Hoth_902, your camouflage looks pretty darned good! A little harder to pick out the detail -- but isn't the idea of camouflage to make the vehicle harder to spot, and harder to make out what it is when you do see it? And it is realistic -- that's the way almost all the "real stuff" is painted nowadays.

So far, what little I've done in camouflage colors is not worthy of posting... besides, those were the ones I either traded, or gave away to friends.

Keep up the good work!

Regards,
Tom Stockton

tstockton,

You are right, it is the job of camouflage to hide the tank and hide the detail. However, Don't let my camouflage tanks fool you, I love the GHQ detail and I enjoy seeing it. My collection will have at the very least, a company with and without camouflage. I love all the various paint schemes that decorate the vehicle skins. To that end, 90 percent of what I own and painted is in a solid desert color. I am feeling the urge to post some of my British vehicles.

Thanks for the compliment on my work.

BurtWolf,

I am in perfect agreement. I find all my inspiration, For my pieces, from all of the great people on this forum and the quality work they do. In particularly like the WWII Desert Campaign vehicles you just posted. makes me want to try some of my WWII stuff. The pics on this site is what drives me to put in the extra detail. I see that is can be done and think I should try.

Thought they are not fully done, I will try and post some pics this weekend. Sadly, I don't think I have ever fully finished even a single pack of vehicles out of the 600 I had.
