The 2018-19 New Releases!

Overall, I think there's a lot of good metal in them thar hills... but I have a couple of nit-picky complaints:

1) You ususally list "model numbers" and projected dates of release with your "New Releases" list. That's a feature I've always liked -- kinda miss that.

2) You are also "making me" do some research into what's what, instead of (somewhat) spoon-feeding us the new goodies. Wah. Wah.

Nothing "earth-shattering" in the New Releases list for me. But since I'm now retired and on a fixed income, I have very little discretionary income to spend on new pewter... Drat. Kinda makes me wish I had my old job back... but I got phased out, my job doesn't exist anymore at my old company, and everywhere else has pretty well done the same thing. And here I thought buggy-whip-maker was a wise career choice! Ha! Well, at least I have time to start catching up on 40+ years of sleep I've missed But I've also got time to maybe get some new metal painted, update my website, etc... So it's not all bad!

I know it's already started... I'll have to get my act together and chime in on the "what we want for the 2019-20 release list!"

I still think GHQ missed the boat on the 100th year anniversary of WWI... lots of cool armor and aircraft to choose from. Instead we got The fantasy '47 range which was an obvious epic failure. I can't figure out why WW2 Japan gets completely ignored on land. Plenty of cool Japanese stuff could be done for China etc. Oh well

I agree about WWI. Interesting possible tank action, plenty of figures to be done. Potential action even into the early 20s, a la '47.

Great timing on the WW2 vehicles!

We just figured out some rules that give value to armored cars in our tank centric battles. The more the better!
We also just started working out aircraft rules - great timing on the anti-aircraft stuff too!
Highly detailed small barrel vehicles are GHQs greatest strength.

Looking forward to my next order.

Tom’s website is what got me into modern micro armour. And I used it for reference all the time. Hope it evolves into something even better.

I really like the list. I can see at least 20 or so that I’d buy at some point. Good to see the Su-30 and Su-24. I keep hoping for a GHQ A-6 Intruder, A-4 Skyhawk, F-111 Aardvark. Maybe one of them next year?

It has to be hard for GHQ, finalizing on a 1:285 military list, that touches on most bases. Can’t capture all consumers. Can try like hell to capture a majority of them though.

Great list in answering to many of my long awaited wishes! I love to see modern micronauts of both China and Japan. Can’t ask for more this year. For modern armour, good to see lots of recovery and engineering vehicles along with modern wings of SU30 and J10B! ZBL08 is also a must have to modernise and to replace WZ551. I’m gonna be kept busy catching up painting these. Thanks GHQ!

Thanks for sending in all of your suggestions, and for your feedback. This is always a tough thing to put together. We receive thousands of suggestions every year, and inevitably there will be some people who are really happy with the list, and some who are not. Many of our customers are fans of all eras of armour or ships, some have their niche area, and many of our customers will buy things across all categories. A few of the main things that we are always trying to do are find ways to fill in holes, bring everyone up to date, see what will cover for a lot of the countries that we feel may be hot, and it always helps if multiple countries use it.

After looking at the feedback it seems that a lot of people feel the same way about this list as we do. There are a lot of support vehicles, and not as many front line vehicles as we have had in previous years. A lot of the things that made the list cross over quite a few countries, and some are in heavier use with export military units. We have been through this list countless times adding things, and subtracting things in the final weeks, and as many have noted, each time we run through it there will be comments and discussions about how this list will likely please those who have a great understanding of the various vehicles and equipment as well as the organizations of the military units, and how each things fits into the organization. As always there are some great front line choices too.

Thanks again for taking the time to send your suggestions in to us! A couple people noted that they can really see that all suggestions are considered because some of these couldn't have been the highest vote getters. That is a great observation, and a very true point. When asked we always tell customers that the most effective way to present your suggestions is to have a relatively short list of the things that you absolutely want the most (usually not more than 5 items). Then write a couple of sentences that tell us why you think that it would be a good choice- holes that it fills, major operators, important wars/battles that it was used it, etc. Sometimes customers will send us lists of hundreds of things with no explanation or context. Those types of list probably take a lot of time to put together, but it's really hard for them to be effective. What does that customer think is the most pressing need on the list? Why should each of them be chosen? When it is just a list of 500 things, then we have no idea.

Read through the list a few times, look up some of the information about each of the choices, see if you learn anything that you didn't know. If you do that there may be a few things that may change how you feel about them being on the new list.

Before I read your current post, I had already begun doing the very thing that you suggested. I spent about 20 minutes looking up each vehicle and reading enough to know what it was and how it was used. Through that exercise, I did realize there are several vehicles I will purchase that I was not aware I needed.

Due to the subject matter of your product, it is an impossible task to try and make everyone happy. With the near limitless variation on each vehicle and piece of equipment, you would have to produce models for the next 100 years to be able to capture everything, both past and present. My hat is off to you for trying. The amount of releases you put out in a year is amazing.

In my short time, being a part of this hobby, I have noticed that there are several types of customers. There’s the Collector, modeler, and the gamer. These three types of groups may not always have demand that align with each other. I am one of those people that are a little bit of all three. I love the armored vehicles as much as I do the supply trucks and the engineering vehicles. For this reason, I will always be hungry for everything you produce.

Finally, I have been involved with your products since 1988. I purchased some things while I was in college and then took a couple of year break from collecting. Once I returned, I was impressed with the dramatic increase in quality and detail of your product. This fact alone drives demand and passion for your product.

Though I will never fully be happy with all the vehicles in each years release, I do appreciate your efforts to try and satisfy the diverse group of customers that buy your products. All of this is why I continue to return to you when I decided to purchase new pieces for my collection and for war gaming.

For me, this list is pretty disappointing overall. There is not much here that really flips my switch this time around.

I am primarily interested in World War II, Cold War era, and Arab-Israeli Wars for my land games and World War I and World War II naval. I do not have much interest in ultra-modern stuff either land, air, or naval and this list seems weighted toward those items.

Of the World War II items, the Marmon Herrington Mk III is something I am interested in as well as the Opel Blitz AA. The Panzer IA and the Humber Mk I might be of interest at some point but there are lots of other World War II items I would rather see.

Of the Cold War era, I see the self-propelled Rapier and not too much else. If the 20mm AA on M-3 is the Israeli halftrack with AA, I am in. Otherwise I am not too sure.

There is no infantry at all on this list as far as I can see. There is a new modern artillery piece. Any crews coming for all the modern artilley? Hmmmmm?!

I will post my wish list for 2019 - 2020 with my top 10 picks for World War II and Cold War on that forum. Maybe I will have more luck next year.

"Always with the negative waves..."

I'll admit that there are items in the new releases list that don't interest -ME- but... Always keep in mind that GHQ can only produce so many new items during one year.

There is a ridiculous amount of hand work that goes into each miniature they create. That takes serious time - both in research and sculpting - before they can release the product.

Complaining just because -that one- specific item you wanted didn't get on the list this year is actually rather annoying.

I'm not trying to say "grow up" but still, come on!
