I have always spray painted my models with primer. Every pewter model I have was primed first.

I used to use hobby primer. But now I use much more economical automotive spray primer (from my local hardware store).

I prime in white. Many here talk about mixing paints to lighten them for the "scale effect". Well, try a white primer -- you may find this does just what you want, and it's much easier than mixing paints.

Now, as to my pile of pewter, well I may not quite be at rct's level, but I too have a VERY considerable pile. And as BurWolf, I often get about half-way into a painting project and stall out. Sometimes it's just boredom with the subject (the first tank looks good, and I feel all motivated. The second batch of 15 ... not so much). Sometimes it is for want of some ridiculously little issue. Like, right now I am in maybe my 2nd year of trying to finish a single company of US Infantry. I can't find the stupid sandbags I made 5 years ago! I tried making some more, but I didn't make enough (and they aren't quite as small as I want). There's only 2 stands I want to put sandbags on. But GD I can't go on to the next project leaving these two stinking stands half-done, because then I know I will NEVER finish them!

Sigh.

It's actually some kind of sickness. Adiction. Disease. I don't know of any hobby shops that still stock GHQ in my area, but even when I had one just a few (as in 10? 15?) years back, their stock was SMALLER than my stock is right now! And yet, I WANT MORE!

I am actually not sure whether I have a backlog or just a pile of pewter. I have hundreds of packs stored in boxes which are left of a huge lot I bought years ago. I sold all the modern stuff, but I kept the WW2 micro armour and the micronauts (not modern) since I only play WW2 micro armour games. Although I mostly play boardgames nowadays I could never get rid of all those packs.
Somehow I still have hopes that one day I have enough time to get back into this hobby and use those minis for gaming. Whenever I think about selling them, there's always that voice in the back of my head that says: 'You might regret this'.
So I kept them for years and I hope some day, maybe when my son is older, I can open those boxes and finally enjoy the wealth of beautiful toys that GHQ made for us.

I don't really have a big pile of unpainted pewter, I just keep re-painting the stuff that I have.I had 3 brigades of artillery for my imagi-nation, and then I decided that I wanted to re-paint some as modern US artillery in desert sand. And then I decided that I needed an ACR in NATO camo. I usually order new stuff with a particular unit in Mind. As soon as it arrives I spray paint it pretty quickly with the base color and get it some basic detail on it so that I can get it into the assigned unit. Everything is fine until my ADD starts to flare up and I begin to reorganize!

My pile just became deeper... about 600 or so used pieces. Modern and WW2.

Chris, your vast income from Cof C IS NOT REAL! You CANNOT USE IT TO BUY MINIS! Now, take it all back and apologize to the store manager.

Chris is my hero! I'm over here counting out tanks to see if if I can field a full battalion. He's over there counting his minis by brigade and division!

I agree. I'm happy to get a few companies while he buys a regiment or two. My jealousy is sooooo ugly. Seriously, I think my partner would kill me if I bought more than I did on Black Friday. She knows how many other minis I have to paint in the house but this was the first GHQ purchase in almost 3 years. It's been too long. I'll quit buying other stuff to focus here instead.

Fortunately, my boss (wife) encourages the hobby.

The President and finance minister of my house hold supports my habit as well. However, this past black friday, she did a surprise audit and questioned the ledgers on how much was actually spent on my inventory levels. I used some fuzzy accounting to show her that even though I spent 200, the actual cost was only about 100. LOL.. Barely made it through the audit.

Currently, I am up to about 30ish unpainted packs. Most of it is because of the 22 packs I just bought and some WWII stuff I have not been motivated to paint. Brings the grand total of vehicles up to about 600 individual pieces.. Nothing compared to Chris's stuff.

Speaking of which, I am alway in aww of how much stuff he has and seems to be working on.
Quantity has a Quality all its own.

Redleg,

Chris drove down from Jacksonville to Gainesville, where I was for a reunion, this past October. He brought some his stuff, which was admirably varied and interesting. He is a great guy, friendly as all get-out, and it was nice of him to come down. My duties as a host prevented me from spending as much time as I would have liked. Wonderful fellow, except when he is trying to rule the world through his Commonwealth, when he can be a...

I think Chris needs a micro armor valet. Someone to keep all of his micro armor dusted and lined up neat. I'm sending my resume to him now!
