It's been a couple years since I came across a video on CrossFire, at which I thought they sounded like they were the best wargame rules. Now I've finally got the rule book and upon reading it still think so.
The CrossFire rules suggest using 1¼â€sq bases ideal for 15 and 20mm figs. But of course I'm for 6mm and feel for scaling down the bases accordingly. I already have my Moderns which I based on 1cm×√3cm bases which snuggly fit 3 figs. But I'm also considering increasing it from 1cm to ½â€.

Hi, sorry for my late reply.
I have played quite a bit of CrossFire, but at some point I lost interest, mainly because of the lack of vehicle support and hidden units. First I tried to refine the rules, but after some time I thought it was easier just to write my own rules based on the idea of this CrossFire.
It took me some time to dig up some pictures of my CrossFire games for you, but I found some:
Game setup. Local landscape with hidden markers on every terrain feature.

Photos during play:

My bases are of different sizes and I never thought that square ones were the best idea. Instead, I preferred to have them shaped according to their fire arc.
Some fighting groups:

The squad sized bases I use are 20mm diameter.
Not sure what else you want to know, but just ask if I can help you.

Thanks. I designed the rules mainly to have an exciting game experience with my older friend. I went for a combination of double blind gameplay, dice rolling with all modifiers build-in and an easy suppress/morale system. Basically, we didn't want a complicated game system in which you have to refer to the manual and charts all the time, but wanted to focus on the battlefield and tactics with a reasonable quick play time. And I think that last line is what I really liked about CrossFire.
My rules are in dutch and likely not very well written for others to understand. I have the plan to translate them in English some day and make a proper rulebook, but I have no idea whether I ever find the time for such things again.
Though, If you are interested I can always send them to you.
