Just for my own educational purposes, is a Russian battalion 3 companies or 4? I thought I read some where that it was 4.. wait.. was that 3 to 4 companies.. Definitely need clarity on that.
By the way, Cavdog, I am working on a couple of companies of BTR-80s and BTR-80As. Fore some reason I have fallen in love with them. I did 5 pieces for each a while back, you can see pictures on my site. When I get all of them done, will post pics. I think I will have two companies of each. Can't wait to see your BTR's

Speaking for '70s and '80s, three companies of 10 vehicles, organized in platoons of 3, except for the tank battalion of a motorized rifle regiment, which used 4-tank platoons, but still had 3 companies. An independent tank battalion could have 3 to 5 companies. The Russians have since discontinued the 40-tank battalion in the MRR, and it hat battalion is me the standard 31 tanks. Russian brigade combat team are built around a regiment and it is augmented considerably.
All blessings flow from a good mission statement.

Guroburov,
Nice crunchies. I'm working on a couple of modern Russian motor rifle companies. Can you, or anybody else for that matter provide a breakdown of the number of each weapon type in the modern Russian heavy weapons pack W97?
Follow on question, does anybody have the company and below organization of Russian Federation Motor Rifle troops? I'm working off the assumption that they still have three squads and three BMP/BTR APC per platoon and three such platoons in a company plus a tenth APC with the HQ element per the 1991 FM 100-2-3. Do the weapons squads still exist at company level? Any good resources out there for 2015 time frame? My google fu is not strong on this.
Thanks

There is a pretty lengthy document that outlines the new Russian military. Motor rifle troops start on page 210:

Redleg - perfect, exactly what I was looking for! Many thanks.
Guroburov - thanks for the info, now I can incorporate that into my next order. How was the quality? The modern Russian infantry I received were badly cast and took a lot of clean up to make them usable.

Cav Dog, the heavy weapons were like the modern infantry. They cleaned up but there was some flash, mostly on top of the helmets. Nothing too tough to clean. My big gripe was trying to figure out what the soldier with the tripod was and the fact they give you SAM tubes but no soldiers to mount them on. It really felt like I was missing a sprue until someone suggested the missiles might mount on the tripod as a dual launcher but I still don't see how it'll work so I've left them off for now. Be aware that the Kornet ATGM launcher is a separate piece you glue onto a small pintle mount. Doable but I used a couple extra words while doing it.
