The soldiers and officers of the Queens Own Rifles are happy that Grunt Week is almost over, Major Windsor has completed his report on the whole training program throughout the week, which will be presented to the Top Brass in Ottawa for review when they fly back to Canada tomorrow. this was a rather strange experience for the Canadian soldiers in the platoon, but this experience might lead into something, but thats for the higher ups to decide.

Friday June 21, 1900 Hours
This afternoon, the troops switched places: the ROD Almost Infantry Battalion and Mahishmati troops marching to the combatives pits for hand-to-hand training while the ROD 7th Infantry and Queen’s Own Rifles march past them out to the LZ. The ROD battalions shouted obscenities at each other as they passed and the Mahishmati troops that spoke English joined in on the taunting and name-calling. Those that did not speak English were limited to obscene hand gestures.

Once the 7th Infantry and the Queen’s Own arrived at the LZ, company commanders and battalion commanders were called forward for a quick refresher on Troop Leading Procedures.

Companies were then issued orders to conduct an air assault mission to seize an objective. Each company was assigned a different objective. Attack times were staggered so that each company had sufficient aviation assets to transport their company in a single lift. Commanders immediately issued a warning order to their respective companies and spent the next hour planning the operation while the boys prepared and rehearsed air assault specific tasks and they conducted pre combat checks.

In no time at all, a completed OPORD was issued by each commander and a fleet of Blackhawk and Huey helicopters began to arrive. One by one the companies boarded their birds as they had rehearsed and they lifted off for a 20-minute flight. The grunts were pretty sure that the pilots were doing their best to make it a roller coaster ride, but they didn’t mind.

As the choppers came in low, pyro started going off in the landing zone and the troops dismounted to the sound of grenade simulators and small arms fire. Like a well-rehearsed drill, the infantrymen secured the LZ and then pushed outward toward a series of bunkers. They isolated each bunker, suppressing it with automatic fire and smoke, and then assaulted each one in turn until the entire objective was secured. Actions on the objective looked a little sloppy, but that was attributed to the troops’ exhaustion. Once the objective was declared secure, the OCs called ENDEX and the companies were picked up one by one by their helicopters.

It was a short flight back to the airfield where everything had started on Monday morning. As the birds came in to land the troops saw the ROD and Mahishmati battalions marching in, and they also saw the huge banner from the Dalmatian USO next to a motor pool’s worth of grills, all smoking vigorously. The troops all disembarked and filed onto the tarmac for some well-deserved surf and turf! The steak and lobster was accompanied by all the fixins and two cold beers per soldier! The PSYOP truck was parked off to one side, but the loudspeakers were now playing contemporary music as the troops ate their fill. COL Eaton gave a 30-second speech over the loudspeaker and then he released the troops to their commanders. Cots and showers were available. There would be no more formations or required training, but all participants were welcome to attend the barbecue tomorrow and enjoy the concert by the rock band Smegma Bomb.

The Canadian officers of the Queens Own Rifles gathered around the table to go over the report before they return to Canada today, throughout the Grunt Week the officers where quite shocked by the RODs Training regime, as its quite different to how the Canadian army trains their infantry (I'll post their training on the Canada (imagi-nation) thread). The Top Brass will review the Majors report to determine if it has some merit, but thats up to them to decide.

With their Boeing 707 ready to depart the Queens Own Rifles make there way back to Canada.

(Dang Autocorrect always getting the wrong word).

The Queens Own Rifles have arrived back in CFB Toronto, Major James Windsor will deliver his Written report to the Canadian Military's Top Brass in a general meeting tomorrow at Military HQ in Ottawa, to discuss the whole Grunt Week in great detail to get their own opinions on the RODs training program, theres no doubt as to their reaction to some of the training that the ROD has put the Rifles through, in the meantime the Rifles are returning to their Barracks to get some sleep after the horrible ordeal they went through.

This morning the MV Bucephalus arrived in Antwerp carrying the vehicles and equipment of the ROD 19th Infantry Battalion - "Mech Dogs". Vehicles and shipping containers are being unloaded and staged at the port in preparation for movement to Schweinfurt, Germany by rail. Personnel are flying in to Nurnburg and moving by charter bus to Schweinfurt. By the end of the week, 7th Brigade HHC and 19th Infantry movement will be complete.

The Unit Movement Officer is at the port, stressed out because the 19th Infantry's vehicles were loaded by company, but they are being staged at the port in a haphazard manner - companies mixed up...wheels and tracks intermingled. This isn't what the PowerPoint slides showed!!!

Canada appreciates the ROD for allowing one of our units into Grunt Week, though some of the activities that went on throughout the week where... Questionable according to the report filed by the Major of said unit to the members of the Armed Forces Council back in Ottawa, most of it looked rather amusing, others like deliberately gasing troops they where quite disturbed by that, but they will decide what to do with this information.

I heard a rumor that the US is building a military force to march into Canada, to try it again.
Quebec 2019, Here we come." The C-nut military has turned into a soft shell of an army resembling soft ice cream vs. a ferocious combat force.
. Beside, who cares what memos they write and submit. C-nuts should read the reviews other military evaluators have written.
. The US Army and Air Force may need to go back into Canada to take over the nuclear missile sites and military bases to protect the North American continent. Military order for the Montana Army Reserves and North Dakota National Guard for their two weeks training might be extended. Full ammo loads and logistics is authorized.
. Alaska Reserves are preparing the invasion by Canada as happened 2 years ago.
State of Washington is sending Reserves up to the area of the border with Canada.

We read those reviews, and began to realize that maybe its time to get our New Canadian Army up to modern standards utilizing the ROD's Training program we got from Grunt Week as a basis for this.

The ROD is glad that the Queen's Own Rifles was able to participate in Grunt Week. At this point we're thinking that we will hold Grunt Week's on a regular basis, and perhaps we will expand the concept and have Tanker Week, Redleg Week, and Sapper Week as well.

Please remember though that Grunt Week was just a week-long special event to reinforce the infantryman's killer instincts. If you want to revamp your infantry program you will need to make sure that you begin with basic training, NCO schools, and officer training programs. Then you need to conduct routine training to keep the troops sharp!

[GM's Note: If Grunt Week was real it would have been tough, but nothing terribly extreme or horrible. I've been through innumerable week-long field problems where I got little sleep and I walked all over the damn place with a rucksack on my back doing ranges and patrolling. Gas chamber too. Panzergator, Cav Dog, Mike Robel and all the other vets on this forum have done the same I'm sure.]

Canada just started there crash program to get the Infantry trained to modern standards at least through the only unit that will receive this training first is the Queens Own Rifles, the rest will take awhile, its quite a slow process.

Recorded Broadcast from the Canadian Satirical News Comedy series, This Hour has 42 Mins.

(This Hour has 42 Mins music Plays)
(Audience cheering and clapping)

(Katy Walsh): "The ROD concluded their Grunt Week with our Canadian Army regiment, the Queens Own Rifles weeks ago, Grunt Week is a week long program meant for the infantry to hone in on their skills in combat in various activities such as poncho raft making and operating in small squads. If you ask me if the situation with this training program was reversed the Canadian Army would have sent the whole ROD infantry to the Daisy Hill Puppy Farm for Obedience training."

(Audience Laughs).

We still have not scheduled a tanker week. The cadre at the Armor School has been locked in a bitter debate over the merits of armored cavalry and they have had little time for planning anything else. Some senior armor officers are in favor of the armored cavalry concept, but the commandant of the Armor School and some other senior officers feel that armored cavalry is not appropriate for the ROD's current military strength and doctrine.

Don't forget that we just had Tank Fest fairly recently as well - hosted by the CoC. That was a great event!

[GM's Note: Grunt Week was easy to plan because it was all about basic soldiering and embracing the warrior ethos. A tanker week is kind of a vague concept in my mind at this point, but I'm sure I can come up with something. Unless the Gator State wants to run a tanker week - PG was a real tanker after all. I was just a tank company FSO way way way back in the day (B/2-185 AR in college - CAARNG - and A/1-68AR in the real Army at Fort Carson). My only claim to fame as a tank company FSO was that I "killed" a tank with a hand grenade during an exercise. I loved riding in the loader's hatch on tanks that were short a crew member during platoon lanes trying to shoot as much 7.62 ammo as I could through that M240! In return for them letting me rock the machine gun I volunteered to dismount from time to time to snoop around.]

EVERY WEEK is Tanker Week in GS. Training for GS units is rigorous and constant, involving gunnery, tactics, combined arms ops, both classroom and practical exercise. Training progresses from the individual to the collective. There is no time in the schedule for hosting a tanker "week." GS is a small state in a world with states whose military forces are much larger and it must train constantly. There are many techniques, procedures, and tactics we do not share for reasons of security. When not training with their units, officers study geography, cultures and religions, history, military history, physics, chemistry, astronomy, ballistics, the mechanics of their vehicles, hydraulics, electronics - a variety of subjects to broaden their knowledge to make them more effective as officers and representatives of their profession and their nation. All members of the armed forces are fully involved in brad spectrum preparation for their profession.
