So... what happens when you spend the time and effort to figure out how to do a conversion / scrachbuild... only to find two weeks later that your favorite manufacturer has released the subject... with more detail... and at less cost for new ones than your scratchbuild?

Just curious...

Tom, I figured out many years ago that the quickest way to get a manufacturer to release something was to build it myself first. It happens every time......

For my 20mm collection, I spent a lot of time laboriously resculpting Italian infantry figures into a Dutch 1940 regiment. Less than a year later FAA releases their new 20mm Dutch line. Then I spent about a month scratchbuilding a pair of 20mm Romanian R-1 tankettes. Sure enough, within a year or so, TWO companies released R-1 models, followed by a third company this summer! Sometimes you don't know whether to
or

Here are some LeoIIA6s with the "Mobile Camoflage System". This is the first of 20. I was experimenting on how to do it. It took me about a month to figure it out. The camo nets are clothes softener sheets, used of course. They are applied over a painted tanks with CA glue, and then painted as per seen in the pics from Army Technologies. Enjoy...

Great Work, Paul! I've always wanted to do the Mexican War...you are inspiring me. I need some of the odd-ball Prussian uniforms from the Waterloo Campaign (roundabouts, feld-mutze, etc.), and might try converting them from ACW figures.

What did you use to turn forage caps into wheelhats?

Paul B,

(a) VERY nice work on both your figures and your terrain! I would love to see more... and maybe a little larger, since my bi-focaled eyes seem to think larger print, etc., is better...

(b) You have posted this in the "right" forum -- this is the "Military Models Forum"!

Keep up the good work... and "keep those cards and letters coming in!"

Regards,
Tom Stockton

I used an xacto to cut the kepi parallel to the brim, then used a 1mm diameter ball of ribbon epoxy flattened on to the top of the kepi to make the porkpie part of the wheel hat.
In fact, I think one of the PDF's of the Tacnews has the article I submitted for the conversion.

Sorry, nothing new... once again, another thread that (IMHO) deserves to stay around!

Here is the other half of Saturdays productivity:
french Renault R39 converted to German Artillerie schlepper 35R(f)
Kind of similar to the previous one I Made, but these have worked about a bit better.

Not my work here! My buddy soldered brass wires together to make the masts and yards, and then did all the standing rigging on this Spanish San Jose.
