Been more than a little while since I posted any pics.

It took Photobucket a few years to convince me they don't want me as a member, but they finally did. Then it took me a while to choose a new photo hosting site, and get myself set up. But I have.

And in addition, I had to do some modelling work worth showing. And now I have. Or at least I've done some modelling work. Worth showing, or not, is still to be decided.

In any case, here is a platoon of GHQ's lovely Pershing tanks, which I actually bought from Troy Ritter, a former contributor to this fine site back in the days of yore. After many superior postings that taught me many things, he left our scale for larger scale work, and I bought out some of his un-painted inventory.

So without further ado, my new Pershings (and company...):

Image
The platoon. Getting good focus is a challenge I have not yet fully mastered, so this first one is a bit fuzzed. But there are some better ones to come.

They are pictured in a photo box that is not yet complete. So please don't infer too much from their setting.

Image
The platoon leader's tank.

I had high hopes for this pic. But alas, while the tank comes through reasonably well, the TC in the hatch is still not quite as sharp as I might like. I was quite pleased with the way he came out -- but at this level you can hardly see how much he looks like Brad Pitt....

Image
This pic came out pretty clear. In the past I used rolled clay for my tarps (and stuff). This is the first time I've tried aluminum foil. It's a bit harder to paint (got to put several coats on it to make sure it is fully covered), but I really like the texture when it's done.

Image
This view gives a sense of the variety of materials I've stacked on the engine decks. Not too much clutter -- just enough to give a bit of individual character to the tanks.

You also get a first look at some of the other "friendlies" that I also painted up at the same time.

Image
Here is the whole platoon again, this time in better focus.

And the friendlies are revealed more fully. A mortar platoon with CO stand, and two .50ca HMGs on AA mounts in gun pits. These are figures from another (UK) vendor, so are not the focus of my posting, but they were on the workboard at the same time, so wound up in the pics.

Hope you enjoy.

Mark - Thanks for posting. Looks good. I applaud your efforts with the tarps and tank commander. Those are things that give the models individuality and character. I've yet to try that sort of thing myself. I sympathize with the challenges of taking photos that do justice to the models. Look forward to seeing more of your work.

I swear I can hear "Ride of the Valkyries" playing in those shots of the Hueys!

Great work, Polish!

Mark, those are great looking tanks! I wish I had the skill and patience to customize each vehicle like you've done. Keep posting pics of your work - it's inspiring!

Mk1 nice minis!! Very nice paint work - Glad you posted!

Polish - fantastic terrain! I have seen tutorials on make your own palm trees - do you ever do that?

Can use your terrain for Japanese/US Pacific in WW2 as well?
Your 3D stuff came out nicely too.

Thanks guys!

Burt, I have tried the tutorials on making your palms and need to go back to that and try again. The palm packs that I get are a mixed bag of scales and that only allows me to use a few in the package. That is not ideal. I try to cut down what I can on the larger models for scaling. Even so far as to start trimming the palms themselves to make them smaller. Nothing like working in the yard and trimming palms and then doing it again at the modelling table.

I imagine the terrain could be transferred to the WW2 Pacific area. The only detail might be the base of the terrain on the hex. Maybe use more sand/dirt and not as much grass.

Thank you. I need to get back to printing more stuff. Those artillery models took a while to build. Need to print a few more and base them on a hex for FSB pics.
