Stock up, and help GHQ help veterans

Post by GHQ »

We have had some customers e-mail, and call to ask us if we are still operational
throughout the Wuhan Coronavirus situation. The answer is definitely “Yes!â€￾

We have been processing, and shipping orders every day, and will continue to do so for the foreseeable future. We know that for everyone to get through this we all need to keep things as “business as usualâ€￾ as we safely can. We realize that both of our core customer groups, wargamers and model railroaders, very much enjoy the social aspects of these hobbies, but they are also hobbies which allow you to hunker down, and get some things done on your own while you are social distancing yourself. If you need some help with things to build or paint, please let us know—we’ve got you covered.

GHQ is also feeling a social responsibility to help people get through all of this. While many are stocking up for their own supplies, there are some places that help-out many in need that are being overlooked in this tough time. One of them is Every Third Saturday. Since 2010 this 501(c)3 has been helping veterans in the Minneapolis area who are struggling with things like depression, PTSD, anxiety, or need some help to get back on their feet. They are one of the small-scale community outreach organizations that is constantly doing incredible work and are always doing it with a shoestring budget. Many of these smaller organizations often fall though the cracks because they don’t have the name recognition like some of the large well-known organizations, but the work that they do is just as huge.

Organizations like Every Third Saturday need help, especially in these difficult times. That is why GHQ will donate 15% of our direct mail order sales through March 31st to Every Third Saturday. This is a great chance for you to stock up on projects for yourself and help out some of those who fought for your opportunity to stay home and wait this out. By choosing a smaller organization like Every Third Saturday we feel that we can have an immediate impact on their organization and get them much needed funds right away.

All gave some. Some gave all. Help us give some back.

GHQ thanks you for your business!

FAQS about Every Third Saturday

How did you choose Every Third Saturday?
A grandson of the GHQ founder was recently deployed to Afghanistan. His mother is involved with a lot of active duty support, became aware of Every Third Saturday, and was very moved by the incredible work that they do for veterans.

How can I find out more about Every Third Saturday?
Check out their website at everythirdsaturday.com, e-mail them, or give them a call at (952) 356-5116.

Where is Every Third Saturday located?
It is conveniently located just a couple blocks from the Minneapolis VA Hospital at 4303 E. 54th St., Minneapolis, MN 55417.

Why is it called Every Third Saturday?
The organization was given its name by the veterans they serve and support. For 7 years, supplies such as clothing, hygiene items, sleeping bags, winter coats, hats, gloves, and boots, etc. were distributed once a month on a Saturday morning at the VA Medical Center in Minneapolis. Unfortunately, the Saturday was subject to change each month creating some confusion amongst the vets. As word spread and the needs grew, veterans asked if one Saturday a month could be chosen for the supply distribution. The third Saturday was chosen, and veterans and their families began to call the volunteers the “every third Saturday peopleâ€￾, and that has been the name ever since.

Who is Rick from Rick’s Place on their website? What is his story?
MSgt Rick Gustafson was a member of the US Air Force Special Operations command and deployed to combat zones 9 times over the course of his career. Rick developed severe mental and emotional wounds from the things he had seen and done, and these wounds led to the end of his military career. In May of 2015, shortly after his retirement from the Air Force, Rick took his own life, leaving behind a wife, a son, a brother, and his parents. With the family’s blessing, we named our coffee shop Rick’s Place to honor his memory, but also to allow us to have frank conversations about the veteran’s suicide epidemic and the other challenges caused by service in the military.

What portion of donations actually make it to the operations of Every Third Saturday?
Although we will be forced to hire 1-2 staff members, ETS is an all-volunteer organization. 9% of our revenue goes to administrative costs, leaving 91% to go directly to veterans and their families.

Where can I donate to Every Third Saturday? Is it tax deductible?
Every Third Saturday is a 501(c)3 organization (EIN – 81-2658331) and all donations are tax deductible.

In-kind donations such as clothing, gift cards, cleaning supplies, etc. can be dropped off at our office at:
4303 E. 54th Street, Minneapolis, MN 55417

Financial support can be given through our website at https://www.everythirdsaturday.com
or through our Facebook page at Facebook.com/everythirdsaturday.

As a military veteran, I'm happy to support such a cause...but maybe a stupid question, what is a "direct mail order?"

I'd like to support this cause but I'm in my 30's and was basically raised on the internet. Someone enlighten me?

Thanks!

Actually very easy.
You order from them by any means - easiest is by internet.
GHQ sends your order to you by mail (or commercial parcel service).

"direct mail order" does not mean that you have to send order by snail mail.

Yes, all orders that are placed directly to GHQ (not orders that are placed through retailers, etc.) . These can be placed online or on the phone. Sorry for any confusion.

Thanks for helping!
