Stryker Thread

Post by redleg »

Hoth and I are both working on Stryker units right now and we wanted to share, knowing that there is always great advice and feedback on this forum. And I need all the help I can get!

I’m going to build a Stryker rifle company first and I’m using FM 3-21.11 (The SBCT Infantry Rifle Company) dated January 2003 as my guide. I just started on the first rifle platoon.

I have some M1126 Stryker infantry carriers that were already painted using Testor’s OD Green, but I want to repaint them using my new go-to color. I have mostly new Modern US Infantry from the N125 and N126 packs, except for a lone machine gun that I recycled from a previous project.

Last night I got the grunts based on pennies using gray pumice. Tonight I’m going to try dry brushing the new green color on the vehicles (on top of the old color) and I’ll paint the infantry bases. Pics to follow.

Looking good Redleg.

I have a company of Strykers sitting in blisters waiting for a slot on the production line. I'm trying to decide whether they should be NATO Green, NATO Tri-color camo or CARC tan.

I'm planning to build the initial TO&E that had the MGS as well as incorporate some Dragoon vehicles as well. Gator is going to roar but oh well...

Maybe once GHQ reopens online ordering I'll buy more and paint up a company each way.

I can't wait to see your Strykers, Cav Dog! Hoth and I were discussing colors recently. I only saw plain green ones, but I've been out for quite a while now. Hoth found some pics and references for Strykers being painted tan.

Be sure to post the MGS pics and ask PG if he likes your tanks!

Update on my Stryker platoon. I was thinking that I would dry brush the lighter NATO Green on top of the darker OD green so it would make some of the detail stand out, but apparently I can’t even dry brush very well so the vehicles got a base coat of NATO Green. I’m going to try a wash on these, but I need some help. Do you paint the details and then wash? Or do you apply the wash after the base coat and then do the details on top of that?

The grunts are coming along. I painted the bases brown and then once that dried I did a dry brush of tan on top of it. No plans to do any flocking at this point, but I’ll paint the side of the pennies something to distinguish them from other infantry stands in other units. I just used the cheapo paint for the base.

I’m going with 9 stands for the rifle platoon: 3 squads (2 fire team stands each), a platoon leader stand, and 2 machine gun stands for the weapons squad.

CavDog,

Get some of your stuff up here. I can't wait to see it. I have a full riffle company I am going to try and get up here this week. I am working on a Light Cavalry unit with the Stryker Cav vehicles and one with the Dragoons. I must confess that I don't really know how to set up the dragoons, so I am just going to replace the Stryker Cav Vehicles with the Dragoons. Also, I am currently priming up a Stryker Weapons Platoon with 12 MGSs and 9 Ats.. Panzer will be so Happy.

As for the Pics, I did a search, in google, for Stryker ICVs.. this is what I found.

The last one I found when I first started painting strykers. So I painted 4 MGSs and the FSV vehicle in that color. I hate finding any of these pictures because I may now need to do a rifle company in that color.. LOL Dam the internet.

I have parts of that. There is an airborne and a Stryker one that is not an annex C. However I see cool stuff in there. Grrr....focus Both....focus, finish what you have. By the way, do we agree that the Stryker Cavs were replaced 1:1 in a cav unit?

LOL.. who we kidding .. it was a drunk night at an officers party and the abrams had one two many and thought the stryker was cute.. Bada bing bada boom.. MGS. LOL..

I agree that its use maybe limited. But for some reason I like it. hated the strykers as a whole, but here I am putting together three companies with all the fixins. Over the last couple of years, I have grown to like the look of the little buggers. And if I am being honest, I have a thing for all the Wheeled gun systems.. Its easy for me, because I don't have to fight in them.. LOL. Plus living in washington, I see them going down the road all the time.

So in conclusion.. Any excuse to build a unit that has an MGS, I am on board. Whoot Whoot..
