Here is one of my many projects that I have on my work bench. The 4 Stryker MGSs will be replaced with ones in a NATO Green paint scheme.

We will see what you think when you actually USE them as tanks...

I actually would never use them as a tank, unless I had no other choice. Last resort kind of thing... Lol

I am still trying to wrap my head around the integration of the Stryker Dragoon in the 2nd ACR. Based on "MCoE SM 3-90 2016 SBCT" The Cavalry Squadron has the following.

Troop HQ
1 M1130 Stryker Command
1 M1127 Stryker CAV

Mortat Section
2 M1129 Stryker Mortar Carriers

Scout Platoon HQ
2 platoons of 2 M1127 Stryker Cav

Scout Section
2 platoons of 4 M1127 Stryker Cav

In this article,
https://www.overtdefense.com/2019/05/30 ... -upgrades/

I read that they would roll the M1296 Stryker Dragoon into a heavy Cavalry troop along with the Javelin. My first question would be, is the Javelin stryker they are talking about, the GHQ M1126 Stryker with a Javelin?

My second question, is, would the Above example be as follows, (using the 2 of each that was shown in a previous post)?

Troop HQ
1 M1130 Stryker Command
1 M1127 Stryker CAV

Mortat Section
2 M1129 Stryker Mortar Carriers

Scout Platoon HQ
2 platoons of 2 M1127 Stryker Cav

Scout Section
2 platoons of 2 M1296 Stryker Dragoon 2 GHQ M1126 Stryker with a Javelin

I thought I read some where that the entire troop would be replaced with M1296s and another troop would have the Javelein vehicles, but I cannot find that article.

Sorry if this seems odvious, but sometimes I need to be explained stuff as if you were talking to a small child or a Labrador retriever.

Thanks in advance for your assistance. Just wanted to know before I make my next GHQ purchase.

Troop HQ - 2 Stryker CAV M1127

I believe the platoon would be organized like so:

1st veh PL - M2MG or a MK19
2nd veh -30mm turret
3rd veh - Javelin Launcher
4th Veh - PSG - M2MG or a MK19
5th veh -30mm turret
6th veh - Javelin Launcher

It's possible it could be this way
1st veh PL - 30mm turret
2nd veh -30mm turret
3rd veh - Javelin Launcher
4th Veh - Javelin Launcher
5th veh -30mm turret
6th veh - Javelin Launcher

Mind you the infantry platoons in the Stryker Brigade (or in this case the 2nd Stryker Cavalry Regiment) have 4 vehicles and I would postulate they would be like this:
1st veh PL - 30mm turret
2nd veh - Javelin Launcher
3rd veh -30mm turret
5th veh - Javelin Launcher

So you would likely need 2 packs of straight 1127s (to get the CO, XO, and the PL/PSG vehicles), 1 pack of 30mm turret vehicles and 1 pack of Javelins (assuming 4 strykers/pack)

I'm going the other way, building an M59-equipped E series TOE mech infantry battalion.

In the US Army, units are organized, manned, and equipped according to a MTOE (Modified Table of Organization and Equipment, which starts out as a standard TOE, then is changed to suit the unit's specific circumstances) or a TDA (Table of Distribution and Allowances). Most combat units use an MTOE, a training unit (for example) uses a TDA.

In the 70s, a tank battalion was organized under the 17H series of MTOE; a headquarters company, three tank companies of 17 tanks each, and a combat support company. In the 80s, a tank battalion was organized under the J series MTOE, with a headquarters company and 4 line companies, each of 14 tanks.

I am building a mechanized infantry battalion as it would have been in 1960-1963, using the E series TOE, equipped with the M59 armored personnel carrier of that time, prior to the introduction of the M113. While the J series mech battalion of the 80s had an anti tank E company equipped with M901s and the earlier H series battalion had an anti-tank platoon of 12 M113s with TOWS and company anti tank sections of 2 M113-mounted TOWs, the E series had an anti-tank platoon of 8 Jeep-mounted 106mms reckless rifles and company anti tank sections of 2 jeep-mounted RRs. There were other differences, such as the organization and equipment of the scout platoon.

The E series TOE turned out to be a transition from the Pentomic-era to the more conventional H series organization.

Questions?

Yes! I have some questions, PG! Especially since all I know about the E Series TO&E is what you have posted above.

Do you know what the infantry squads looked like at that time? I think the M59 carries 10 dudes, so were there 10 infantrymen in a squad?

What did the mech infantry companies look like? 3 platoons and a HQ? And did the tank battalions under the E Series TO&E have 17 tanks, or something different?

Thanks for the info!

Hoth, I am putting the info together from a number of different sources and will post soon. Pretty sure it was a 10-man squad with 2 crewmen in the track, but it might have been 11. We learned to employ 11-man squads even in 1970 in ROTC. The E series might have been different. Vietnam saw several MTOE changes, so I want to be sure. Here is what I have:

It was 3 companies with 3 rifle platoons, 4 APCs/platoon, and a weapons platoon with 3 81mm mortars (M84 tracks) and 2 anti-tank weapons, either 106mm recoilless rifles on jeeps or 2 French ENTAC anti-tank missiles mounted on M38 1/4t trucks (I went with the 106s, 8 for the AT plt, 2 per co)). 15 M59s/company. Scout platoon was 5 M114s, an M59 carrying a rifle squad, and 2 tanks, either M41s or M48A1s. Not sure about a mortar for the battalion scouts. You can take an H series mech bn and replace M113s with M59s and get pretty close.

As you can see, issues to resolve. Just had cataract surgery and, while vision is great for most things, reading books is not one of them. Have to get readers once the new lense settles in.

Chris can hook you up with M59s and M59A1s, but they come from England in the slowest boat that can be found. Suggest M59A1 for the company combat vehicles, M59 for admin, such as company maintenance and battalion 'S' vehicles.

You can get M59s, M59A1s, and M84 mortars from Shapeways, but they are more expensive. They are 1/285, whereas the English ones are 1/300. I have some of the latter and they are close enough for me... Still bigger than the 1/285 M113s.

2 tracks for company command section, 12 for squad and plt ldr vehicles, one for wpns plt, no co maintenance track.

2 tracks for bn cmd, 1 each for S-1/4, S2, S3, commo, and medic ldr. Mortar plt is 1M59 FDC and with a 4 or 6 mortars - I think 4. Might have 3 M59 ambulances, but they might be wheels, too.

There was a command post vehicle planned, but it was not built. Use M59s where you would use M577s in the H series.

Depending on the year, there might be M578s, 2 at bn and 1 each/company.

This one is really fun and I can't wait to put it all together.

I think I will follow that with a Pentomic battle group - five rifle companies ( later reduced to four), each with four rifle platoons, mortar battery, don't know what AT stuff, but think it was ENTAC or recoilless rifle, recon troop. Maybe use M75s for the carriers. We will see. Really need M38 1/4T and M37B1 3/4T for both D and E TOEs.

It took way longer than it should have and the results are pretty mediocre, but I finally finished my Stryker rifle platoon. I should probably keep working on these, but my survival instincts tell me to just get it off the work bench and keep working on the giant pile of vehicles that are waiting for paint.
