Thanks for all the kind words, gentlemen.
Now a few odds and ends, the last of the salvaged ships, and a Dutch DD I'd misplaced.
HMS Dorsetshire, ion her Bismarck sinking livery, which she kept till she was sunk herself in the Indian Ocean by the Japanese

DKM Köln (no historical camo, got inspired by other German ships)
And the Dutxch Admiralen class DD Van Nes
I'm just back from 10 days in hospital, with a very optimistic outlook. To celebrate, I guess I'll start a new project

Welcome back to the walking-wounded!
Looking great.
The Koln is interesting, having only one turret towards the bow, two facing the stern. Is it ready to retreat!?

Excellent work on these new additions to your fleets. I really like the pattern painted on the Dutch destroyer. Do you have a good reference for her camo scheme? Thanks so much for sharing photos and write up of your naval ships and games. I have very much enjoyed reading and viewing your posts. Some time I need to figure out how to post photos of my own ships to share. Thank you again

My new project is started : I will build the opposing ships that fought in the 1st part of the battle of Jutland. No way to do the whole of Jutland, but the Run to the South and the Run to the North pitting Hipper’s battlecruisers vs Beatty’s and Evan-Thomas dreadnoughts are a really interesting battle in themselves. So , the program is both Battlecruiser Squadrons (11 ships in total) and the RN 5th battle squadron (4 Queen Elizabeth class BBs). Might add a few DDs on each side, as they open interesting tactical challenges.
This said, here is the 1st completed part of the project : 3 Hochseeflotte Battlecruisers. Starting with the 1st built, Von der Tann :

She was succeeded by the 2 Goeben class BCs. For obvious reasons, Goeben was absent at Jutland, but her sister ship Moltke was there indeed. Goeben class was essentially an improved and enlarged Von der Tann.

Seydlitz, the 4th German BC to be built, was essentially an improved Goeben. She took heavy damage at Dogger Bank and HJutland, but survived both times.
Now, GHQ did a terrific job on these models. Details are perfect (I loved doing the torpedo nets masts on the Seydlitz), they really bring the ships to life. And lastly, I could not resist adding a pic of all of them, showing the technical evolution. You can see how they grew in size, and added a new 11' turret on Moltke & Seydlitz.

Those are great looking German Battlecruisers, Foxbat! Well done!
I have a good number of the GHQ WWI ships myself, mostly German and British. One of these days I will get to painting the ships for Coronel and The Falklands and maybe game those battles. I do have a soft spot for the WWI ships as well as WWII.

Very nice job on these WWI ships. When you set up a WWI naval battle, what game rules do you use?

Foxbat
The Moltke, etc., when we’re these built? Main guns seem to be centerline, yet there are turrets that aren’t. Are they Dreadnoughts? Or Pre-dreadnoughts?

Thanks Gentlemen.
Not quite determined on what rules I'll be using : possibly old reliable Naval Thunder, but I also downloaded Fighting Battleships, and a WW1 version of the Nimitz rules set. Will depend on what pleases most the opponents.
Redleg, Moltke was launched in 1910, Von der Tann in 1909, and Seydlitz in 1912. All of them have off center turrets, but they are genuine dreadnoughts since they have a single caliber main battery (11' in this case). If you take a look at their British opponents, you'll also find a lot of off-center turrets. Centerline turrets imply superfiring turrets if you want to achieve the same firepower, and originally, it was feared that the upper turret firing could cause damage to the lower one. The 1st ship with superfiring turrets was the predreadnought coastal defence battleship Henri IV, launched in 1895, and you can easily see how conservative the builders were, as the upper turret is of a much smaller caliber than the lower one.

Foxbat, thank for the postcard and info. Helpful. 1909 was significant year for dreadnought, wasn’t it
