That is a great looking bridge, Jeff! I really like the different colors of stone you have meticulously added to give it some character.

Polish,
Dude, your bridges look amazing. Between you and Pete's terrain hexes, it makes me want to take the plunge......maybe one day.

Very nice indeed, as Hoth stated.
Hoth, take the plunge. Besides, those tanks will look great on your terrain.

Spectacular work Polish! I love that bridge! Are those the standard GHQ terrain maker hexes that you used your magic on?

Re: PolishGI’s Working Thread (WWII & Vietnam)
Thanks! Regarding the colors, I had a concern that perhaps I used too many colors… not sure yet… or if I keep them, I may try to dull them a little more… Maybe I am just being too critical. Lol
Thank you! I have been waiting for you to take a crack at terrain… lol
Thank you! What Chris said… take the plunge!
Thank you redleg. No, those are not the standard terrain maker hexes from GHQ. IMHO, while great, too pricey for me. So I made my own hexes. A few years back, I took an inventory of how many hexes I have and did a cost comparison between what I do and what it would take to produce if I purchased the hexes from GHQ. Nothing again the terrain maker sets as they are great. But the monetary difference was just too great for me.

Re: PolishGI’s Working Thread (WWII & Vietnam)
Thank you Hoth! I hope so! Trying to find a scenario or two to play out in the near future where I can utilize these two bridges. Having to cross/control a bridge really changes the dynamics of a scenario.
Thank you 7.62! Not a bad place to be!
Thank you redleg. I laid down a dark blue color (Tamiya; XF-8)… I placed a layer of Woodland Scenics water effects. (looks like Elmers glue; Amazon) You manipulate that so it looks like running water with different heights. Let it dry… 1-2-3 days?
To layer, I added a lighter blue on top (lightened XF-8) so you can start to see the dark blue underneath with the lighter blue on top. Add a thin layer of Woodland Scenics and let it dry.
Then I painted the tips of the water (Woodland Scenics will tell you where those tips are after the material dries) white. Once dry, another thin layer of Woodland Scenics water effects to seal everything up.
And in theory… you can see the white water tips, beneath that is a lighter blue color… beneath that is a darker/deeper blue.
The part I struggle with a deep/dark blue river that is THIS wide… in THIS scale… Should it be more of a stream? But at this scale, the width of this “river” would equate to something fairly large/wide… and in theory, decently deep as well. So then I am ok… idk… lol Hopefully, that makes sense. It’s the internal conflict. lol
Thank you Chris!

Re: PolishGI’s Working Thread (WWII & Vietnam)
Polish,
I get the issues with scale.. I once got some GHQ buildings.. did not think much about the scale. That is until I ordered the motor pool that Allan Rockwell makes from game craft miniatures.. It was huge... and when I looked at it on the large board (12 x 7) I normally play on, it took a lot of real estate. Then I revisited the GHQ building and realized they were not to scale. This point was driven home when I bought the Tank positions from ... Ugh.. Can't remember.. The tank positions are huge and I tried to use them on a board, enough for a whole company, then I could probably have half a board blocked. Slowly I wrapped my head around the fact that if we modeled things like Rivers, Roads, building and the like, we would run out of real estate fast. Then everything would look like a Team Yankee board.. everything clumped together and hardly any movement... Just shooting... LOL.

Thanks for the water tips, Polish! I'm going to try it out pretty soon. First I need to do some basic grass hexes though!

Yay! This is a safe space with a support group. Lol My go to for scaling is now looking at the GHQ men (not US Paratroopers) and assuming they are 6mm… comparing the troops to doorways on buildings. Can they fit? HeheHoth_902 wrote: ↑Fri Dec 13, 2024 11:04 pmPolish,

Anytime redleg. Good luck. Basic grass hexes… just flocking? Or using a static grass applicator?
Flocking

Can you find the VC?

GI,
Oh yes, I can find the VC!! When the rounds start buzzing in the air from my flank, or both flanks and rear.
The static grass looks awesome.
