Gentlemen.
Looking for feedback, suggestions because of your expertise.
I apply a black wash to these K2 tanks. It looks like it’s raining vs a dirty look.
What suggestion(s) do you have?
Thank you.

I dirty things up by shaving graphite from pencils and dry brushing vehicles with it. Otherwise, use black or dark gray or a very dark brown, all FLAT coloring for dry brushing.

Hi Chris

Please check out my reply in a private message to you when you get a chance.

Most washes will leave a bit of a sheen when applied. For my minis, I used a turpentine based black wash or very dark brown wash. After I apply the wash and ensure that it is exactly where I want it, I then bake the mini in my dedicated toaster oven for 20 minutes at 200 degrees. This is the old school GHQ method. This helps cure the paint and evaporates most of any turpentine residue from the model.

Once the mini is out of the oven, I use Testors Dullcoat which is the old name. I apply this, thinned down with clear lacquer thinner, from my airbrush. It always seems to dry very flat and gets rid of any sheen on the model.

I hope this helps.

Sorry Chris, I missed your post about the black wash. I have the same issue of the model looking shiny after I apply a wash, but I always follow the wash with a dry brush that dulls the vehicle back down. I have been experimenting lately with some different washing and dry brushing techniques. Right now for NATO camo pattern I paint the vehicle green, then do the wash, and then I dry brush the green and brown and black on top of that.

I have also been playing with this stuff, which is I think intended focus on panel lines and it's not supposed to be a full vehicle wash. Did I slather it all over a tank like it was a true wash? Of course I did! It does work well when you use it as intended too!
