I've seen estimates of civilian or total casualties approaching 100,000 but Insurgent casualties are estimated at around 23,000 but one study says it is 55,000Belisarius wrote:Yes, the families of those might disagree with me, but those t-shirt wearing, masked insurgents still don't now what they're doing (as far as not losing their own forces in a roughly 20:1 ratio). The estimated insurgent death toll is approaching 100,000. How does that compare to 4,397? Also, just over 1,000 of those deaths occured from enemy fire. The rest were IEDs, accidents, suicides, and friendly fire. Maybe GHQ should make an IED pack?Timothy OConnor wrote:The families of 4,397 American service men and women would probably disagree with you.

I bet if OIF was fought like WWII, it would've taken maybe 1-2 months and we'd be busy figuring out what parts of the country get divided amongst the US, UK, Poland, and the other coalition forces.
It is not just US casualties you need to look at to compare.
Iraqi allies 11,500 (new Iraqi police and army)
US 4400
Coalition 320
Contractors 1350
So almost 18,000 total allied killed in action.

So likely a KIA ration of 1.3 to 1 rather than 20 to 1. At most 3 to 1.
Plus with that many casualties surely there is some real fighting going on, not just an IED or a skirmish. While an IED pack may not be necessary, GHQ makes several MRAPs and an IED clearance vehicle to fight IEDs that no one would ever want to game.
Clearly Iraq is not close to WWII, so everyone needs to recognize that if they want to represent modern warfare then it requires having insurgents to fight cause Fuldagapistan is not going to happen.

Gentlemen:Yeah, these yahoos probably shot each other. Just after they gunned down some innocent civilians.
This discussion has wandered too far afield.
To remind everyone of what we are here to discuss:
GHQ wrote: This forum is a ... resource for information on military gaming, history, modeling, etc.
We have very simple rules relating to the GHQ forums. We don't moderate with a heavy hand.
But among our rules is that these forums are for the discussion of our hobby and the history that drives that hobby, NOT various views or observations on politics and world affairs. There are other places you can go to post your views on those issues. But not here please.
And to remind everyone further:
We don't moderate with a heavy hand. But we can if we need to. It would be a shame if we had to start using our super-powers.GHQ also wrote: All posts are subject to being edited or deleted by any of our forum moderators.
So please, keep the discussion to modelling and wargaming, and to military affairs and military history that supports modelling and wargaming.
Good advice, that. Worth considering. And GHQ also wrote: When in doubt about placing a post, take 15 minutes to think about it, before hitting the "Submit" button.

Hmm, sounds a good solution to the lack of "real" Russian AB figs. Thanks.thetourist wrote:I'd say about 7 or 8 out of ten figs. I only have the inf and not the hvy weapons and I got about fifteen stands out of one package (3 to a stand). I think they turned out great!

The moral high ground: A good place to site your artillery.
